Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I've tried the ebay thing a few times, they always end up in the $100 range. Yours isn't a schwinn shifter though, is it?

I got the Schwinn one a couple of years ago for my forever on going Manta Ray resto. I want to say I got mine in the $75 range. I should stop buying new bikes, and concentrate on finishing that project...

Thanks- Now I have to ride my cross bike everywhere, which is a lot of fun, but it's a little nerve racking to lock it up in this city.

These bikes are awesome. A few years ago I had a 1 speed schwinn with 24" wheels, it was so much fun.

+1. Will you people stop messing up your beautiful bikes with mismatched tape? I'm seeing this way too often, and it reminds me of a teacher I had who wore mismatched converse. I'm sure he thought it was awesome, but it wasn't.

mismatched tires, rims, or hubs are slightly less jarring, if you must express yourself through mismatchedness.

They're the only bars that are really perfect with the Technomic stem, in my opinion. You get a few comfortable hand positions and an incredibly secure descending position (what would otherwise be considered the drops if the bar were curved like a regular drop bar). I put moustache bars on this bike only partly for the aesthetic. Mostly I needed to get my position up and back and they've done a great job of that in conjunction with the stem. I'm still on the hunt for a Riv Quickbeamish frame to replace this one, but it's better than it was before.

They're Honjos - made in Japan. Velo-Orange ships internationally but they're out of stock at the moment.

I just got my first Velo-Orange order today. Really cool company.

+1 on the love for Velo Orange. Chris is a really nice guy, and one of the few US based vendors who doesn't charge astronomical prices for shipping. I tried to buy some hubs from Nashbar when they were on sale, and they wanted to charge me more to ship them than to buy them! Having shipped hubs transatlantic myself, I knew they didn't cost anything like that. So yeah, Velo Orange = Good.
