I installed my new black Spurcycle bell on my Absolute. After a close call or two with pedestrians, I needed an early warning system. Also, it really classes up the bike nicely.

I installed a RockBros copy of the spurcycle and sold my spurcycle. They are excellent copies and VERY affordable.

I washed my bike by wash&wax shampoo, buffed it's some minor scratches, lubricated it's chain and wires and shined it's tire sides by tire shiner. I ordered new suspension lock cap from AliExpress a week ago because lock cap on my bike is broken. I also ordered some reflector tape from AliExpress for my bike like this: https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32821021326.html?trace=wwwdetail2mobilesitedetail&productId=32821021326&productSubject=Reflective-Stickers-Motorcycle-Bicycle-Reflector-Bike-Cycling-Security-Wheel-Rim-Decal-Tape-Safer-A2
I ordered red&white one.

When I first got my drop bar Volare rolling I used some Specialized Hoffalizer 700X 32 CX tires on it. Very light and quick but wanted to save the knubby tread for my coming CX bike. Those have now been put on the 2002 Bianchi Axis that arrived in the stable. The tires which took their place were Specialized Nimbus 77 X 28 ones. Good rollers with a smooth grooved surface. Very heavy but I could play around with the PSI to get a Cush ride.

I have now now moved those aside for the next set, Conti Gatorskins 700 X 25. Lightweight, fast rolling with good flat protection. Will need to see what I can do about PSI to soften the harsh ride some. No pics at present... we are batten down at present while Michael gusts the wind, rain for today.

All this tire swap has made me want to find a better set of wheels. At present it rides on some Araya 700 X 22 rims from a 94 Mongoose hybrid. The valve hole is Shraeder and I am tired of messing with the ill fitting presta screw threaded cap to cover the hole. I have a very nice Shimano LX rear hub with the 137 spacing to lace to a rim when I can find one. I will keep this bike 7 speed as far as I know.

I also switched the 2001 Avid Shorty 6 brakes to the Volare from the Bianchi. Stopping is just as strong as the newer 6’s I had on there. Those went to the Bianchi as the black looks better with the Celeste.

Another bike got changed around which freed up a C15 Brooks. I will try it on the Volare for wet weather riding. Nothing wrong with the Selle Italia I have on there now but worried the leather will suffer this winter.

Thats it for now.

I've acquired 4 sets of hybrid wheels in the last year (damn you Nashbar and your free shipping deals! ) I'm taking all of them apart, cleaning them of their factory grease, putting in gobs of Lucas Oil marine grease and readjusting the tensions on them. So far I've done 1 set.

A nit pick upgrade today. While adjusting the brake pads I noticed the post bolts were crud rusty. So while hanging around my friends bike shop I through the Volare up on the rack and changed them out for some new bolts. Thrilling, right?

Today I finished repacking the 4th set of hybrid wheels.

This weekend a friend of mine is bringing over his hybridized MTB and I'm going to clean & repack 2 sets of wheels for him and install a new bottom bracket.

Nice compact modern style with shallow drops 40mm wide from a Specialized Tarmac. Stem is no name but lite 100mm reach.

Now, the next upgrade is a painful one cause I will have to stop riding the Volare for awhile. Even though I have many great, cool bikes to get around on, this one seems to get grabbed the most right now. I have an attachment to it. I rescued it, built it up completely from parts on hand and found it to be a very stable but aggressive riding machine. Okay, a little bit cause it pisses off some bike snobs too.

next upgrade will be the new colour for the replacement fork. I found some rustoleum primer+ enamel paint which nails the dark metallic gray colour. First step is the paint strip. I felt this was a good idea cause the original paint was on thick and hid the nice details of the fork. Did not want to add to this and further bury the brazing sunder more layers.

As it sits, I have it stripped, sanded and covered with WD-40 for now. Will finish clean up spots then pick a good time to prep and paint. ...and it just started to rain.

A buddy dropped of his bike yesterday along with an extra wheelset. I started servicing the hubs and cleaned his chainrings today.

So now I'm servicing two bikes that aren't even mine!

I decided to peruse this thread all the way back and was surprised to see this. I got the same box, mine was from Harbor Freight, I put mine on the rear rack. How did you attach it? I drilled hole in mine and used 1/2" EMT conduit clips squished down a bit to attach to the rack bars.

I went through 3 rack bags over the years, the sunlight turned them brown, then purple and finally the zipper fabric shredded. So I decided on something sturdier. I carry too much stuff, I can barely get mine closed.

Yup, Harbor Frieght strong box mounted to a Surly 24 Pack Rack, used “L” frame brackets from Home Depot and drilled holes for nylon locking nuts and bolts. I did this almost a year ago and still holding strong, what I like about the strong box is you can lock it too. I did a whole write up on it, I will try and find it.
