Hi all,

Anyone on here using 28mm Gravel Kings (file tread) on their road bike? Am looking at the tan wall version and can get these for a good price at the moment, just wondering what they are like as have read mixed reviews on them?

I have them on my fixed gear and like them a lot. I formerly used Rubino Pro 25s. These roll just as nicely on smooth roads while offering a little more cush on rough patches. Mine only see light gravel use at the moment, but I feel confident on them when I go over the odd path here and there. I keep them pumped to around 70-80 psi.

I put them on my Ciocc for Eroica CA, and really liked the way they rode on pavement and on the gravel sections. I can recommend them.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be only riding roads, how do they compare with GP4 seasons?

they are my go to tires for the Canyon Belgian Waffle ride we have here in San Diego, 135 mile and 46 of it is on dirt, 12k vertical. I had 1 flat in 5 yrs of me doing BWR, and that was a pinch flat hitting a raised concrete lip at 35mph 3miles from finish.


Tire is rock solid, I now also have the 26c size in my Pinarello GanS. Soft and supple but really good flat protection found on say a much harder cased GatorSkin hardshell. But the Gatorskin corning is lacking and tends to push and cause me not to trust them at speeds. The GK is are similar to the GP4000s in cornering but better flat protection and suppleness. GK are $35-40 on amazon prime, so $20ea cheaper than most Conti tires, gp4k. 4seasons, hardshells.

I used the 28c GK's for a year and a half. On my 4th puncture, I switched to the GP 4 Seasons, which are much more puncture resistant IMO. I have ridden the same routes with both tires. I'm on my 3rd year with the GP4. The GKs roll better, but I'd give that up for better puncture protection.

Been running GK slicks for the last two years..previous tire was GP 4 Seasons. I like the GKs a lot...easy rolling fast tires. No flats (had a couple flats with the GP4s and wanted to try something new). I've got GK28s on 3 bikes GK SK 38s on one bike. My GF has GK slicks 28s on one bike and GK slick 38's on another. We like them..nice tire. Bikesmiths in Milwaukee (either ebay or their own site) typically has very good prices on GKs.

I use GK 28s. Solid “all-road” tire. I like them as a compromise; as in light enough for the road but handle well and can stand up to occasional dirt roads and poor quality shoulders. Durability and puncture resistance has been good-although I just noticed a nasty cut on my front tire with <1,000 mi that I had to trash. Whatever caused that though, likely would’ve cut other tires me thinks.
