Raleigh technium year
Hello everyone, on my normal stroll through the CL classifieds, I spied a Raleigh technium tri lite prestige in black, silver, and teal. I've looked through the catalogs archived online and didn't find a match, though the cyclone derailleur makes me think it's 88 or later. What year was this bike made?
Edit: it's listed at $165, which seems fair.
TIA

The 7 speed accushift would make it a 88/89 production. As for value if every thing works good and it is you size is a fair price for a major market $165.

Thank you. It would be nice to have under $100, since I don't need another bike. I'd pick this up for a fixed gear single speed conversion if it was that. I know you can buy a new fixie for that price, but they're a little on the heavier side, aren't they? I think state street listed 24.5 lbs for their entry spec fixie/ with brakes. I know the earlier technium frames weigh that much altogether, and dropping parts for the conversion and potentially a lighter wheelset might make a good fun machine! and a headache and a half from what I've read!
Sadly, in our market in central Ohio, I've seen clean Raleigh Technium 440's listed at ~$300. Can't tell you if it sold or went back into storage until next spring, but that was the price. Does Suntour Cyclone derailleur place this in the middle of that year's lineup? Cyclones were a level under superbe, IIRC.

Raleigh introduced their Tri-Lite series in 1987 and brought in triathlete Scott Tinley to endorse them as a response to Centurion's successful Dave Scott Ironman series. 1987 was also the first year for AccuShift but I believe the subject bicycle is a 1988 model. There were five Tri-Lite models that year, with the Prestige being 2nd in line. While I don't have have the MSRP for this model, it would have been ~$700-$750 based on the MSRP of the above and below Tri-Lite models. Claimed weight for the above and below models was 22.3 and 22.8 lbs. respectively, so I'd expect the stock Prestige to to around 22.5 lbs. IMO, $165 is a very good price, barring hidden issues.

Thanks for the help, @T-Mar. It wasn't clear from previous tri-lite threads about the lineup, but I suspected that the frame is second from the top model since it's not using the Suntour Alpha 5000 derailleur. Again, being a light bike with admittedly short horizontal dropouts makes me dream of a SS/fixed conversion that's lighter than a cheap new one, but I'm still working on a project and looking to save more. If I did it, I'm afraid I wouldn't ride it enough.

There's a lot of opinions floating around out there about old Raleigh Techniums. Good, bad or, otherwise....... all I've noticed is a whole lot of them are still rolling around. (They probably made a million of them). I own an original first year production model. It's one of my favorite rides. Light and fast. I think these are absolutely great bikes that will last a lifetime. As long as it's got good wheels and tires on it $165 is a reasonable price.

I'm not even a mid-range rider!
Be aware that it is only 2nd from the top of the Technium Tri-Lite series. There were other Raliegh models above the Tri-Lites. Being marketed to triathletes, the Tri-Lite series models were all mid-range, performance oriented models. There were no high end Tri-lite models in 1988.
