Help PLEASE
I recently bought a new trek earl. I have it set on fix. When i pedal hard or break hard by try to pedal backwards it skips or its a hard thing to describe. It feels like the wheel and the pedal break from being in unison to not being able to make the wheel move for a split second.
Sometimes while biking, the pedals will slip. I will push down but the pedal doesn't bite or catch, or it does and then seems to release the 'catch' all of a sudden.
It is a single speed fixed. i just need to know what the problem is called

this should be moved to the fixed forum...
but that sounds like your lock ring isn't tight enough...you should get that checked out, it can destroy the thread on your hub.

What echo said. Take it to a shop and have them tighten the cog and lockring. Hopefully you didnt already strip your hub.

Lockring and cog not tightened properly - VERY DANGEROUS TO RIDE THAT WAY. Please do not ride it anymore until you have someone who knows what they are doing look at it and asses whether or not you have damaged the threads on the hub and whether or not it can still be tightened to a level that will allow for safe operation.

+1 - if it doesn't have brakes then don't ride it.
