Thickslick tires, Should I complain?
Hey guys, I just went to the bike store and asked for 2 new tires to fix my road bike, the second cheapest that they had, not bottom of the barrel. 700, 25s. The dude says how about the 30$ ones, I say that is perfect, and there we go. I also get a pair of lights and 3 tubes, total came out to $165. I ask if they have any used road tires to throw in, and they gave me one and told me to come back later for more (Stanford campus bike shop, they know me.) I ride this mtb I found back to work carrying my stuff, and when I get there and set the tires down I find out that the two new ones are Thick Sliccs!?? I didn't know they still made those, and I also didn't know they made them for road bikes. I thought they were for fixies and 28-32, and ive heard they are some of the worst tires out there. Like literally the worst.
Are they really that bad? I got one mounted so I guess I will see how it performs. I kind of want to go back to the shop and be like WTF? You gave me Thick Slicks? Do you think they should try to make it right, maybe by stashing some used gp4ks or something until they see me again? Could they be messing with me?

You chose which of the shop's tires you wanted to buy. Either return them unused or be an adult and live with your choice.

I actually liked the thick slicks I had several years ago. Never picked up sharp rocks or broken glass between the treads because there are no treads. I put them on a bike that I gave away because I wanted to try something different. They wore very well too as I recall.

I don't understand how it was possible for you to purchase something in person and not know what you purchased. It's not as if you ordered them online and they show up not being what you ordered. Weird.

I've got them on 3 bikes and have never had an issue (or flat) with them other than the rather large logo wears down over time.

When special tools or questions arise a good friend brings the bikes he buys cheap to me for repairs and then donates to the Gospel Mission. He uses Slickstick 25s on road bikes exclusively that he gets cheap from China, Ali somebody, they seem to hold up well.
