optimal tire width for skidding?
im about to convert my vintage into a fixed
im thinking about 700-25c for the rear and leaving the 27 1 1/4 for the front....
does tire width make a difference for skidding?

You mean as far as durability is concerned? Hardly any.
Tread thickness and hardness are most important there.
Check thickness with one of these:
I'd probably run at least a 28 out back to help make the overall wheel/tire diameters closer. Unless you want slacker HT angle and lower BB height.

Easiest skids come with 23 (or less if you can get 'em) pumped up to 120psi or so (for my weight). AFAIK nobody makes thick tread 23s though so you'll need to buy a lot of them.

I would be too. I'd be looking at some 32s probably. Maybe even 35 if I could handle the possible sluggishness. Pump 'em up hard and they're prolly not that sluggish tho. If the frame was made for 27" then you should have a fair amount of room to jam some big 700c tire meat in the rear triangle.
Chainstay clearance should be your biggest concern. I'm guessing no rear brake. Chainstay bridge would likely not be much concern. Even if it is you'll just have to let a little air out of your tire to get the rear wheel out. You got forward facing, horizontal dropouts? Or what?

Oh yeah. Cute animals AND food! Primo!
C'mon y'all. Dude is stressing about tire choice for tires that will last for about of 100 miles of skidding in the city! Gotta help a bro out.

OK, I'm gonna assume that means forward facing horiz. dropouts. So do you have a rear wheel yet? If so you'll have to figure out how much tire clearance you have to the chainstay bridge from the rim as the wheel drops out of the dropouts. If you don't change wheels often then just get the fattest tires that will fit between the chainstays even if you have to deflate tire to get the wheel out.

optimal tire width for skidding?
I would recommend using 28c from my experience 25 and 23 last way less and anything over 28c is too wide.

not the cheap ones->wellgo, origin 8=cheap they work but break down faster than the better quality pedals. if you dont have a lot of $$$ to spend on better quality pedals I suggest getting some mks gr-9 they are a good buy for their price

Fresh Garbage
Is there anything better to talk about?
Hey gais, I need to sup my girlfriend when I see her on campus but I fear my 42x19 isn't manly enough for her anymore. Is 52x14 good for skidding? i would describe my riding style as slam dancing on the pedals and I commute at about 25-27 mph with a head wind. should I try a 15 or 16 too? 17 would be too ***** I need to know ASAP because i dont use a front brake anymore. I ride tru fixie
