2 miles.
Not even time to warm up.
If you want a new road bike get it. You could walk this.

I like to go fast as much as the next guy. I can understand how liberating moving from the Swobo to the Jamis might feel. In the spring I very much look forward to switching from my MTB with it's big knobby studded tires to a nice fast road bike.
But...
After 7 months of riding the road bike, I figure I've already hit my personal bests for commute times this year. In another 6 weeks or so I will hopefully have the pleasure of riding in the snow on the old MTB. I'm starting to look forward to it.
I guess what I'm saying is that you've got at least two capable bikes. Going fast will soon be old hat and then you may appreciate some of the positive aspects of the Swobo a bit more. Just switch it up now and then. If you want to get a new bike, go ahead. But I think you've already got what you need.
FWIW: Skinny tires aren't so bad in the rain. Just give yourself more room to stop and don't go as fast around corners.

I was gonna suggest that drop bars are the way to go for a longer commute, so sell the Swobo, and buy yourself a good messenger bag and maybe a singlespeed, like the new Bikesdirect SS CX.
But 2 miles...keep the Swobo, and ride it unless you are going to extend your evening commute.
My commute is 11mi each way. If it was sub 3mi, I would definitely have some kind of flat bar cruiser.

no you guys already talked me out of it and made me feel less elite by mocking my 2 mile commute.
Not everyone can live a half hour away from work by bike. Some of us are stuck too close to work to get a good workout in, my 10 mile lunch rides notwithstanding.
Maybe I'll just use a pogo stick and hop my way to work so I can be as elite as some of you.

It's L337 you n00b j0ng.
Anyways, all mocking and snide remarks aside...you should get what you wanna get. I have a serious problem with purchasing new bikes (to me), putting lots of neato components on them, falling in love with them and then seeing something else I want. So, I sells the one to buy the other. It's a rotating stable of 3 or so bikes...It's fun, it's a hobby, I make more money than I spend (usually), but my wife put her foot down the other day and said I need to spend time with the fam.
What I'm getting at is you should buy what you want to buy. For me there are a few I regret selling and a at least one I absolutely will not sell.
I regret selling the Peugeot. I regret selling the Ross mountain bike. I will regret it once my Cannondale sells. The Surly will never go anywhere...it's mine.
Do it if you want, but make sure you won't regret selling your Dixon. I would regret my Surly because I've put so much love into it, with racks, a sweet look, fancy parts, etc... I finally have it just the way I like it, the bike for 90% of the riding I actually do (not just dream about, which is what my MTB and roadie are for).
Those Jamis Auroras are pretty sweet tho.

It sounds like you would thoroughly enjoy an Aurora, or another touring bike, or a cyclocross bike, or maybe something else. You should go test ride a bunch, and find one that you really fancy. I could never have enough bikes.
