Fair enough - I ran into that problem in SD. The distances between points in the mid-west took some getting used to

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

Loved both of these.

Yeah, someone asked me if I planned to continue biking into icy/snowy weather this winter. I replied I'd probably keep going until I had a serious crash. That's close enough to the truth.

One of the paramedics (who is also a bike commuter) passed me on the way in to work. When we met up at the station, he congratulated me on being so well lit up! Then we talked for a little too long about bike ninjas and drunks vs. bikes and so on.

I've been getting questions about whether I'll commute in the winter or not. I started bike commuting in cold weather (early spring) because my @#$% truck wouldn't start, so it'll be kind of hard to drive in cold weather! (the truck still isn't fixed; it isn't a priority right now)

I asked my boss to stagger my work hours forward an hour so I could avoid auto rush hour because I was bike commuting. A few weeks later, I ran into him in the break area as I was filling my water bottle with ice before leaving for the day. He asked if I was biking and I replied "uhh, yeah...what gave it away?" because I was wearing bike shorts, helmet, biking shoes, and an orange safety vest.

His reply: "I knew you were biking. I just didn't know how funny you looked when you rode."

Everyone at work is a golf *****. It's how they network. I tell them I'm not old enough to play
golf. I get the gooney bird canard. For some reason a bike became fashionable a couple of
years ago. So now I get a pass.
Mutt "I can't believe you spent that much on a bike."
Jeff " I can't believe you spent even more on golf clubs."

After one snowy ride into work, Just one more exchange to clear the air.
Mutt "You think your pretty tough."
Jeff " I allways thought I was more like a hobo."

Everyone person at my company rides bikes to work. Not every person every day but a majority of days. The novelty of having a bike rider amongst us just isn't there. It's part of our culture.

We don't talk about it too much unless there is an incident or the weather get's nasty. There are only 4 of us though.

I always like to give the golfers ****. When they inevitably ask me if I play, I always say I play a couple of rounds a year but I'll take it up seriously when I get too old to do anything strenuous.

With the work peeps, it's just banter. I kick it in when they do charity tournaments like MDA or
a fellow worker. In another month or two they will have to go to Florida if they want to tee off.
Meanwhile...

I got, "Hey, when's the next triathlon?!!?" from a guy I've never seen before (I really only interract with a handful of people at work on a regular basis). I gave him the WTF look while I tried to figure out if he was poking fun, or what.

Then he introduces himself, turns out he's a big triathlete guy, said I should go riding with him some time around Capital Circle (30 mile trip) at 5:30 in the morning. I'm thinking, uhhh, just working on my 10 mile rt commute for now!

Nice to talk to another cyclist though. On my commute and at work I'm the only bike I see.

You know, with the golf nuts you can help them get it. Ask "if you could get yourself to work everyday by golfing, wouldn't you do it?" It just turns out that 'my thing' also happens to be transportation.

Awesome! I'm looking forward to my next opportunity to use that. Far better than my usual "it's OK, I don't melt" response.
