Oh dear. My pre July tapering turned into at least a week of rest days. Gonna take a lot of pizza to gear up for tomorrow.

First 3 race in the books. Kept myself in the top 5 spots for most of the race. The race splintered pretty good, and was happy to be at the front. And then, with 1 lap to go, I wasn't. Mid-pack finish. Struggling with being okay with that and coming down off of an otherwise flawless season.
Also flatted 10 minutes prior to the start and my HR was 5 BPM higher than typical, with my normalized power 40w lower. Not my day I guess.

Now for the disclaimer. My apologies if my advising a physician about this kind of thing seems presumptuous to you. It is just that I have had a lot of experience with GI maladies and with skirting the NSAID issues while suffering from a very sensitive stomach, esophagus and intestines. Just letting you know what has worked for me.

Nobody got to Cat 3 by finishing at the back of their races. Each one of them have won or podiumed more than once. You can still maintain the swagger you have, it just needs to be tempered by the facts. The fitness is a given, and you are likely very close most of them. The race savvy is what will need to be studied, and developed. You'll get there, but it doesn't get any easier.

That corner caused enough issues to make one want to be where you were. Rolling with the youngsters made it tough, though we shelled a lot. I was top five into the last corner, and it was looking good, then someone decided to fall down two in front of me. Almost track stand, took off, but momentum was lost. Top ten after the prior two days is decent. Funny. This race, my NP was the highest that I've been tracking it. Optimistic.

My experience is you get a lot of warning before any real gastric damage occurs. Responding as you are to the pain you are experiencing will most likely prevent anything really serious from developing. One thing to consider in future is starting the omeprazole and antacid at the same time as you start the NSAID. Another approach is to use a topical NSAID like Voltaren or even the lidocaine patches. Even if the Voltaren does get into your system, the dosage needed for the surface of a small part of your body should be gentler on your stomach than a full on enteral dose.
