Early. It has similarities to my '91 Karakoram.

The 7 speed XT parts would make it 91-92 . Great bike last of the top end GT frames.

For the most part it looks like a '91, down to the paint treatment, the Ritchey rims, the threadless-style stem on the threaded fork, the U-brake, etc. Only outlier is the thumb shifters, which hearken back further, to the late '80s. But that may have been an LBS swap, and in my book, that's an advantage over the original RapidFires. I think the seat post is an upgrade as well, and the saddle is of course a modern replacement.

Pretty bike in pretty good shape. Like 2cam16 , I have a '91 Karakoram with that crazy paint treatment, and it turns heads. Your Avalance was a couple notches higher, second from the top of the line BITD. Value depends entirely on your market. There's a flipp.... er... frequent lister up in Stevensville MI who asks a pretty penny, but the bikes are fully tuned and listed well. So check his ads and strive to list at that level. At the other end, there's a dime store-ish Schwinn Sierra, newer but much lower on the totem pole, typically lame listing, for $190. Based on those for comparison, I'd say your bike, tuned up and listed well, highlighting the iconic paint job, should fall in the $300-400 range.

It's the 1991 model, with a thumb shifter conversion.
