Sears Ted Williams

I’m trying to find out any information I can on a Ted Williams Sears Roebuck 10 speed bike. It is gold. It has a sticker under the seat that says BMA certified.

There were very low-end Sears Ted Williams bikes, and then there were ones made by Puch in Austria out of high-end steel tubing. You can see the price differences in this 1974 catalog page:

Good Morning and welcome to the forums. It can be tricky for new members to post pics so if you want you can email me some pics at BianchiGirLL@yahoo.com

Funny how the catalogue drawing of their premium bike seems to have its seatpost backwards?

Look the bike over carefully. Note the head badge and see if it states that it was made in Austria; also note the manufacturer of the components. All of that detail is great information. And photos please.

vintageracer, Welcome to Bike Forums.

After finding your post, I thought I’d take a minute to explain to you why you can’t post a picture yet. We are by far the largest bicycle themed forum in the world. And, therefore, we are a ripe target for spammers to attempt to advertise their wares. In an effort to reduce the amount of spam that we have to deal with, we have instituted a few policies.

One of which is withholding new forum members from posting pictures or links until they have made 10 posts. That gives the moderation staff enough time to sort out most of the spammers from the real forum members. Another measure we have installed is a 5 posts in 24 hours limit to new forum members. Once you get past 10 posts both of those restrictions are automatically removed.

Forums want new threads and posts and welcome new forum members. This may upset some people and they may vent about it. We understand. An easy way to get your post count up is to go to our Introductions forum and introduce yourself. Then maybe take a couple of minutes and greet some other new forum members.

Thank you.

That bottom bicycle in the ad is an interesting creature. DB 531 frame in 23" only (58 cm?). With steel hubs and rims and probably a cottered crank.

I'm pretty sure it was resprayed at some point years ago. I did a lot of touch up. The rear derailleur probably was replaced. It has a Crane on there but most likely had a Campy NR. I threw the Cinelli handlebars and stem on to replace the steel ones that were on there.

I bet it was a first generation Camp Record Rear Derailleur, not a Nuovo Record. That looks like a mid 60’s Puch. Mine is a ‘65 and should have a Record rear derailleur...I put on a NR that I had laying around.
