Velo Orange Braided Housing
I am thinking of using Velo Orange's braided cable housing on my next build, but am unsure of the color. One of their pictures makes it look quite silver-y
But another pic looks quite a bit darker
So which is it? I am looking for something darker. Didn't someone post some inexpensive braided cable housing from ebay that came in various colors not too long ago? I am looking for a dark grey braided housing to go with my charcoal colored frame. I like Jagwire (their Titanium braid is perfect!), but they don't have campy compatible inner shift cables...

I'd buy the Jagwire and spend ten minutes with a file or ten seconds with my bench disc sander.
I've used the VO housing. It's nice but pretty floppy. I haven't used the Jagwire.

Not sure why you couldn’t use this Jagwire Campy shift cable in their housing (look through down the list for the Campy-specific cable). Mine works fine.

I've got the VO cable you showed above. The first pic is the more accurate representation- it is quite silver-y in real life. Also, just FYI- I found it tricky to get a clean cut on it, and it needed a lot of filing.

It's silvery. Maybe not quite as light as the first pic, but definitely in that direction. No tint on the plastic covering.
To be honest I can't really tell the difference between it and jagwire. I've used both. VO is kind enough not to slather their logo all over it.
The Jagwire Ti is kind of smoky brown tinted.

I put it on my wife's mixte.
I pretty sure the braid is aluminum wire, it's pretty bright.

VO braided cables look nice, but they tend to be a bit too stiff. Almost like twigs. I bought a set a few years ago but ended up not using them as I was afraid of the front top tube cable guide of my bike being subjected to a lot of stress and possibly breaking. Tried to "massage" the cable casing to soften it up but the plastic sheahing started to kinda separate from the braided wire substrate and it all started to look messed up, so I just gave up on it and bought my regular favorite wound wire cable casings with clear sheathing from Porkchop BMX instead, which works perfectly for all my 80's C&V bikes.

+1 on the Porkchop BMX housing. IIRC it was hard to find on their website. I emailed them and they got me to the right product

I've never seen the porkchopbmx housing before, but it appears to be wound steel with a clear plastic housing, like on many 80s bikes.
Another similar product is also made by VO, but it's wound stainless steel without an outer plastic sleeve, true to the bare steel housing that was used on many 60s and 70s touring bikes. The VO housing has an internal plastic liner to reduce friction unlike the real vintage stuff, but is bare steel on the outside, and I've used this on many bikes. Always been happy with its looks, its performance, and its superior flexibility.
