remember this bike? (Bilenky)
the guy who runs hetchins.org totally REAMED it. i mean damn, it was a "tribute" not a replica.
https://www.hetchins.org/bogus-05.htm
"If Bilenky meant this as a tribute to Hetchins, it falls short of the marque. They have juxtaposed unrelated elements and the result is a farrago which Hetchins would never have produced, certainly not together on one frame. The design is further marred by inaccuracies and errors of detail."

you should read CWMD (the owner of that bike) reaction to that review:

"...On a genuine Hellenic-stayed bike, the seat stays (whether curved or straight) run parallel to the down tube; not on the Bilenky frame. ... Secondly, unless there is some distortion of the jpeg involved, the top tube also appears to be bowed downwards on the Bilenky frame. ...Thirdly, look closely at the top foto and note the rear tire clearance. You could fit four fingers into that gap. Why would anybody incorporate a curved seat tube, and then set the bike up with such a long wheelbase? The point of the curved seat tube is to get a short wheelbase by moving the rear wheel closer to the bottom bracket shell than would be possible with a straight seat tube. The result in this case is amateurish: superfluous curvature in defiance of design concept...."
DAMN.
Bilenky got served. It was a little harsh, but once you look at the Hetchins bikes compared to the Bilenky, the points are pretty valid.
I'd go for the Hetchins.
Or maybe, if I wanted something REAL pretty, I'd go for Columbine Cycle Works - https://www.columbinecycle.com/bicycles.php.

luckily this is just a guy running a fan site and not the maker of Hetchins himself.

**** that. what about the word "tribute" do you and the guy that runs that site not understand? None of those critique points are valid because it's not supposed to be a Hetchins bike. It doesn't matter if you put the tribute side-by-side with a Hetchins and can point out all the differences; tribute's are not carbon copies of an original, tribute's show appreciation for something by emulating stylistic elements the subject is known for.

I think it is funny that he was harsher on that bike than the forgeries passed off as actual Hechins.

Bilenky repaired and repainted my '87 Fuso. They did a great job. Plus, they make these cool cargo bikes that look to be perfect for hauling kegs or pizza around.
