About to buy a 2010 Specialized Sirrus Elite, but it’s only an 8 speed?

Hey guys, new guy here. Just getting into finally purchasing a nicer bike for myself, and found a great deal on a 2010 specialized Sirrus elite. The only odd thing, is everywhere I look online the elite version is 9 speed but this thing is being advertised as an 8 speed. Everything else about it seems to match the elite specs. I asked the seller, and he said that’s how it came when he bought it. Did that version of the elite have the option to be bought as an 8 speed, and is that a big deal?

If the bike has an 8 spd. cassette, it's not a 2010 if it's a Sirrus Elite. 2009 was the last year the Sirrus Elite had an 8.

Walk away from this one.

Thank you for the response! The asking price is 300$. I’m guessing I’d be overpaying if I bought it then correct? Also, it has a sticker on it that has the manufacture date at August of 2010. So honestly I’m so confused as to what year this bike really is. The shifter it uses is the Shimano Deore which I believe is 2010 or higher no?

$300 U.S.? Probably overpriced.

2010 Sirrus Elite had 9spd. Deore LX shifters. Does the bike look like this?

It looks exactly like the picture, and everything matches the specs from brakes, fork, derailleur model, except for the fact that’s it’s an 8 speed it’s so odd. Regardless, am I overpaying at 300$ even if it is a 2010 Sirrus elite?

Probably overpaying. Have you seen the bike physically? Does it actually have an 8-cog cassette?

If it is a '10 Elite, it cannot be "8spd" unless the shifters and cassette have been changed/downgraded to something else. Deore/Deore LX was long since 9spd by 2010. 2010 Deore/LX shifters will not work with an 8-cog cassette.

Something is not right here.

I wish I could post pictures, but I don’t have 10 posts yet ugh. I have not seen it in person, but the shifter on the right handle bar clearly says “8speed” and there is another picture of the derailleur that shows it being the the Deore with only 8 spots. It’s honestly mind boggling

Sounds like the seller has made a mistake on the year. Maybe an '09 model that he purchased in 2010, and thought it was a 2010 when he bought it?
