TOC Gormully & Jeffery Rambler
$2250 or best. (put the wrong number previously...) this is a very rare turn of the century (1898-1905) american made bicycle with ornate rococo lugwork, which was a trademark Rambler detail. just professionally powdercoated blood red with hand applied gold lug lining by Mark at Groody Bros. the gold scrollies and top tube labels are easily removed.. the overkill bug had bitten me. brand new wood cb italia rims, double butted spokes, modern 700c x 32 continental white tires, vintage rebuild brompton front hub, sturmey archer 3 speed rear with coaster brake, boxkar top tube mounted shifter with oversized clear resin knob that encloses a big ass dandelion. diamant acier rechromed crankset with 166mm arms, 36t chainring, new selle italia H series saddle with re chromed lucky 7 seatpost, re chromed handlebar stem with reproduction wood and leather grips. Hand made engraved leather carry strap. built this for a tweed run that i didn't attend. cash or PP f&f sale and local pickup. not shipping this baby, although is amazingly light. in a relative
way...
The Rambler brand was created in 1878 by Thomas B. Jeffery, who co-founded G&J in Chicago with R. Philip Gormully. At the time, low prices often took precedence over quality but in manufacturing the Rambler, G&J used several more costly techniques, such as using brass-brazed joints instead of more common non-brazed welds, which improved the quality of the bicycle.
In 1897 Jeffery built his first Rambler automobile, a simple single cylinder car with bicycle wheels and a forerunner of the 1901 Rambler Model A.
asking $2250 and this will be a local pickup, so come to newport and see some mansions to get in the gilded age mood, stop for clam cakes and chowder at Anthony's and go home with this bike!
