New project: 1950's Follis

I happened upon an unusual find yesterday, a mid 1950's Follis. It is unusual to find high quality French bicycles in the Los Angeles area, I can't remember seeing one this old and with such nice parts. Maxi hubs, Stronglight, Ideale, Simplex, Beborex, etc. The frame has a nice build quality. Enjoy the "before" pictures.

Fun to see that she came from Harding's.

Nearly every Follis from this era which comes up is the team/house blue colour.

This white example is something rare.

Wonderful that she is all original.

Thanks for sharing!

Thxs for posting. Those twin cable Juy 543 are fascinating. Enjoy your new acquisition.

Not a fan of the mechanicals on it, but those frames are something very special. At some point, I'd love to acquire a 1950's Follis, or Frejus. Eager to see how this project progresses.

Gorgeous. That seat might need replacing though, I don't think leather that rippled can be coaxed back to health.

Super awesome cool. What specifically helped you determine the specific date-of-birth?

Rudi (rhm) can fix that for you.

I am jealous of that crank even though it would not be appropriate for my 50s project.

Hopefully this bike project goes smoother than the work on 2926. My son has been following that closely, the crew has enthusiasm but has had much need to go back in and rework stuff.
Like some bike projects...

Can the year be pinned closer than "1950's"?
I'm wondering early 50s or late 50s???

edit: I'm interested in early 50s and just beginning to learn features.

The front derailleur is a Juy 53 B. Velobase says it was available in '54, and a page posted from The Dancing Chain says it was produced until '56. Close enough...
