Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

There *is* a 705 update.
The updater tells me about it and asks if I want to update.
Then it goes out to lunch and never completes the download.

Try some of the methods in this Garmin forum thread. So far the problems have been minor

Note--it will reset your settings and your history. I'll wait another week or so to see if any more problems crop up. The last update, 3.2, was recalled and canceled.

Try downloading the update, and saving it as gupdate.gcd on the 705, and see if it'll update from that. From the garmin forum:
hello I'm martinus from belgium.
my problem: during update to 3.3 the 705 will stop at 50% and give a error message.
the only thing I can do is annulating the update.
can anyone help?
thnx,
martinus

23/12/10 : problem solved: reinstall (from this forum) a firmware vs 3.1 (download and rename to gupdate.gcd, than copy and paste into my 705) and after a new trial from the first time installation OK :-)
See this BF thread on manual updates.

Well I updated without a hitch, it went pretty fast. I tried out the day/night views, and the night view pretty much just inverts the colors on the data fields (i.e., white text on black), and it also inverts the colors on the maps so the streets are white and the rest is black. I actually may try to keep it in night mode just to see if it is more visible during the day just to try it out.

I'll report back Thursday when I go on a ride if I notice anything different/broken/fixed.

These Bike Forums are awesome, but for up to the minute info on Garmin devices, the Garmin users' forums are even awesomer.
