Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

ugh ... so out of shape

between a hard fall a few weeks ago, a bad cold and then snow, almost no miles for several weeks. I could have done trainer miles last week, but had zero motivation.

Well, the weather is getting a bit nicer, but today's 20 mile ride only underscores what a pud I've become.

It is unreal how the body morphs to the negative. By the way has anyone ever told you that you look a little like william shatner?

Git 'er done, bub. Fall backs and shortcomings are always inherent in these endeavors...get on the bike until it becomes a habit and you can't live with out it.

My bill is in the mail.

SpongeDad: I have had almost the same experience this winter (but subtract the cold part and add an $18K hospital bill for the fall).

We both need to HTFU. My apologies for using an annoyingly overused phrase. It simply had to be done.

I know, I know. I'll be ramping up the miles as fast as I can. I was just wallowing in my lack of aerobics.

Don't worry. you are not alone. I'm out of shape and I don't have the excuses of bad weather, ill health or injuries.

I actually am in surprisingly good shape considering the miles I have done (or lack thereof). My shoulders are feeling it though. I've been spending too much time on the tops and now have been doing only hoods or drops.

We've probably all been there at one point or another, I know I have and what makes it worse is that you'll remember how better you were.

All you need to know is that I'm cheaper than chip. But not better looking. I hope that's not a deal-breaker.

I rode all through winter, and now we have a bit of sun, I jacked it in for a couple of weeks. Carried on eating plenty of junk food though. This week I got back into it... nice... and... easy.

I ordered the one on the left and ever since I've been putting down sub-3-hour centuries, four times a week.
