I do not know the Grade of that climb, but it is Very steep. I sure wasnt prepared for it and before I knew It I was almost at a standstill before I got my foot off the pedal . Yes bad choice on my part with the gearing. I left a corncobb on my rear wheel so I was in a 42 X 18 when I hit the bottom of the climb which made for quite the struggle at the start. I finally got it going though.

Great day and it was Safe riding all day long.

Driving down from Sacramento for the October Velo-Retro/Rose Bowl ride. Sunday I’m riding the mean streets of Pasadena and Monday I’m attending a taping of The Price is Right. Wish me luck. If I win a new car I’ll be able to sell it and buy a garage-full of vintage bikes.

I am going to make it this month if not in China...do I need to suit up or can I wear shorts and a jersey?
Also is there a place to park/hide less than perfect bikes?
Best, Ben

Another great day on the Pasadena Vintage ride. 91° at the finish, but shade along the way and a nice breeze made it a great day to ride. My friend Rick brought his "new" '78 De Rosa, and there was plenty of eye candy along too. Here's a few:

Rick's new De Rosa.

+1

I'm seeing a lot of "daily drivers" in there - well maintained with honest wear.

thanks for posting!

Me too. Had commitments for the Grandkids birthday party at the Party Kingdom activity house in Chino on Saturday, then taking the Grandkids to a Nick Jr. Music event in Hollywood on Sunday. So kinda close by.

Glad everyone had a good time and for sure I'm coming in November.

I think I got it figured out.
Thanks mech. Bought the bike, jersey and the Dettos new in '85. The Dettos have the '84 L.A. Olympics logo on the side. I took the aero bar off about a year ago when I rewarapped the bars (the pic is 2 yo). Too much gut now to use them.
I'm still running the Helicomatic rear end it came with. Have had zero problems with it--ever.

Excellent! Hope to see you at the next ride. How is that frame built, internal lugs with steel or aluminum?

will you be riding at Eroica California next year?

I'm gonna' do my best to be at the next ride. It's a Carbolite frame, internally welded. Pearl white paint that amazingly hasn't yellowed. I wouldn't count on Eroica but one never knows.
My son lives in Pasadena--too bad he doesn't ride. My bro has our (late) father's old early 70's Raleigh. I should try to get him to join in.
C U next month?

The AMF was a recreation of one of the bikes in the final race scene from Breaking Away. He did a great job with it, right down to the red helmet. A few more photos from the ride...

I felt good this morning after riding from Beantown to Rose Bowl. Unfortunately a flat within 200 feet of starting with the group kept me from riding the whole route. I had parked my car at Beantown to head home early.

Just a single shot I got today.
