To right the wrong of bringing two vintage road bikes to Coppi that had modern Campagnolo components on them, I'm considering riding this for Hilly.

I'm not completely sure I have the motor for it and if it rains, those chrome rims are gonna carry me all the way to the crash site. I'd need to find a spare tube and make up a tool kit as I'm certain to be alone if trouble strikes.

Beautiful bike. It just needs a pair of clipless pedals.

I was think toe clips and my old Chuck Taylor "low tops" But you might be right, some Look clipless and road shoes could be the perfect touch.

Pop a pair of alloy wheels and some decent 27 inch tires on the bike and it will ride great with converse sneakers, flip flops, or your racing shoes if you go clipless.

I dunno about that saddle though . . .

If @nomadmax actually rides that Varsity, it might just be my only chance to keep up with him. otherwise, I'll get to the crash site (speaking theoretically, I hope) sometime over the weekend.

If you were at the Coppi party, you know that Pete and Allan are beasts.

Does this ride go through Hickory? I would really like to see the Jimmy Chitwood statue someday.

What the heck, I've done stuff way dumber than this. I'll ride it as is but for the seat, the foam in the stock one has had it. I think I have an old Brooks laying around somewhere.

As someone who spent most of my life in IN, it still trips me out to hear I-69 continuing south of Indy.

You know, carbon, Shimano.
I'm fairly certain that a carbon bike with Shimano components would ***plode under Allan before he got to the start line. Not 100% certain, but with rounding, yes. OK, fine, 99.9999999999999%.

I think it was the '77 Hilly 'vendor area' where I bought my Bata Biker shoes...

Ask Alan to tell you his story about that Varsity and a pack of Luckys. You won't be disappointed. And you may change your mind about keeping up.

I've heard the story. It's a good one, and Allan tells it well.
