Anyone us bicarb lotion?
Amp Plus and the stuff like that. Do you have sense it actually helps?
I'm kind of against it in principle, meaning that even if it did help, I'm not going to spend the money because I'm cheap. I'm not a professional. But I am curious if anyone thinks it actually helps.

Kid has. Some old (now WT pro) teammates did, but was more into ingesting baking soda and also using lotion. Kid thinks it might help, but when he ran out, it was not the first thing to go buy.
I think the placebo effect is very important in athletics. So I would not want to try to tell someone anything was snake oil - even if it was snake oil. Those that *think* they have an advantage, often do.

Sodium Bi-carb is one of only 5 things the IOC has strong evidence of being legally performance enhancing. I've used the lotion but have not taken it orally, don't need the dietary risk on that one. Lotion seems to work, but hard to compare as you can't really do a blind study on yourself.

Question that’s half real and half facetious:
if it doesn’t alter your mitochondrial density and cardiovascular function then it’s just a pain reliever right?
When I do my work, still only in 2 1/2 years working out, the limiter always seems to be the actual physiology of energy delivery or cardiac function.
Then again there’s ideas about athletes who can tolerate versus people who convert lactate different ways (Phelps vs Hamilton). Thought I read that Phelps perception of it is very low in terms of RPE wheras his body is full of it. Then others bodies have naturally lower levels.
Just postulating.

A friend uses it and swears it works. He also acknowledges it couuuuld be placebo, but the placebo effect is real so either way it's probably benefiting him...

I didn't notice a performance improvement. What I noticed was reduced DOMS a day or two after tough, high-intensity efforts (stuff like 40k TT, track points race, etc).
