Wide Shoe Recommendation?

Hello,

About a year or so ago I purchased a pair of Lake Cycling 2017 Men's CX176-X Wide Road Cycling Shoes (size 50) for my road cycling adventures, which are about 3,000-4,000 miles a year. Sporadically as I wear these shoes, from the time I’ve bought them until now, I would have shots of pain on the tops of both of my big toes. I have tried different insoles as well as different sock thicknesses to no avail. I really enjoy the width of Lake’s X-Wide shoes, therefore was hoping to get a recommendation on a pair of shoes that may help with this pain.

Details:
I’m 6’6’, 265 pounds, and wear three hole road cleats. Generally when the pain occurs is when I’m putting above average power efforts out (500+ watts). My shoe size is between a 14 and 15 4E, and as mentioned above, wear a size 50 X-Wide CX-176’s.

Any advice you can provide is much appreciated.

Thanks!

I love my lake 160. As soon as they discontinued that model I purchased a spare. I have not had a pair fit me as well as these. I am trying Sidi next. They feel good in the store.

Have you felt around where the tops of your toes are hitting the shoes to see if there's something there that could cause pain? Tops of toes wouldn't be as likely to be a width issue - sounds more like either you're pushing down or pulling up more strongly causing some kind of added pressure from the top of the toe box.

That would also be my guess...
Giro also has wide shoes. Look for HV (High Volume) Giro shoes.
