https://www.bicyclebananasstore.com/2...09_Sputnik.htm

$569 shipped for a brand new 2009 jamis sputnik.

This is with the reynolds 631 frame and carbon fork when the sputnik was still SWEET.

Seems like a better deal than the surly steamrollers on closeout.

Agreed, good deal. Only problem is 55cm is smallest size available.

so hard not to pull the trigger on that sputnik

were the 631 and carbon fork worth the $300 price point above the '11 (using the msrp) they were marked at originally? With them being priced the same now it's a no brainer, but was the original bike price properly to begin with in BF's opinion?

IMO the MSRP is consistent with comparable bikes in that range. Thing is, MSRP is high and bikes always sell at a discount, typically 10% to 15% off. Periodically, there are sales at even greater discounts. I don't consider a discount to be good unless it is at least 30% below MSRP. The best deal I ever got on a bike was for a Salsa Casseroll SS on closeout at $449, which was 55% below the MSRP of $998.

^^Remember that part in the Dark Knight when Harvey Dent grabbed the gun away from the guy in court?

Well, it was a carbon fiber gun that was made in China. It also didn't work.

I'm guessing the guy from performance bought one of the many chinese carbon fiber frames that are listed on ebay.

Here is a more expensive example of one, although most have the option of giving a best offer...

https://cgi.ebay.com/3K-New-Full-Carb...item3f096a1ee7

The moral of this story is, would you really trust riding a Chinese made carbon frame that was being shipped from Hong Kong? Unless of course you enjoy carbon splinters up your arse.

These are bikes that failed from reputable companies:

On the other hand, I've seen plenty of riders ride the Chinese made carbon frames. I've seen road & track, and not a problem. Very similar designs to the higher-end companies leading me to believe they're selling one's that were blemished and/or using the same tech & mold. If you haven't ridden one or know someone whose ridden one, don't bash it because it's from China. I hope you do realize that many carbon frames & wheels are OEM from China.

a lot of the more expensive carbon is coming from taiwan though. and it's pretty well known that these are made from open molds similar to well known bikes, they are NOT pinarellos and kuotas that were blemished or made after hours. the molds are made to look similar to lead people to think that they could be blemished or factory seconds.

I wouldn't buy one personally. some people get a great example, others get a noodly piece of garbage. quality control is pretty subpar, there have been cases where the dropouts aren't straight so the wheel sits in the frame crooked, or bb shells being the wrong size or also being crooked. there's no warranty either. with carbon being a directional material i'd rather buy from a company that has put extensive R&D into figuring out where and how to lay up the carbon sheets.

isn't it going to cost them more to ship it to me than what I paid for the items? that seems crazy

Ugh must resist from buying stuff I'll never end up using.

Seems like they're liquidating dead stock nonetheless considering the brighter frog strobe replaced it.

Add them to your bike light setup or give them to your friends. Now that it's spring people are busting out bikes they haven't ridden in a while. It's likely that they don't have any lights either. It's nice to know they'd be at least a LITTLE safer. I bought 3 to use and give away.

it's funny, I wanted that Masi before the price drop but couldn't justify it at that price. I saw it there yesterday and was actually kinda happy it was overpriced (for me) at the time I did buy my frame, because the no orange frame sent me in a different direction

I think I'd rather just pick up that Sputnick fully built for $210 more than that Speciale.
