Boston area people: My stolen bike is recovered!
A good samaritan recovered my bicycle from the thieves!
She found me from this forum, searching for stolen bikes!
She knew the kids were up to no good- took the stolen bike from them and searched online to find the owner!
Unbelievable, but what an incredible person!
The bike will get sent to me soon, as I'm no longer in Boston.
And say Thank You for being a great person

This is incredible! Congratulations, and hooray for people doing the Right Thing.
Who's up for a ride to Lynn for lunch at the sub shop???
How cool would it be if we organized a ride on this forum and a bunch of cyclists showed up to thank Ally?

Is there anyone that is willing to go to Lynn and pick up my bike? I am willing to compensate gas money.
I simply need the bike picked up and dropped off at a bike shop in Boston.
It's been so long and if someone is willing to do this, I would be very grateful.
Please PM me if you can do this
thanks

I will happily do this in exchange for lunch next time I'm in LA or wherever it is you live now (or next time you're in Boston.). Send me the details to pocky at MIT dot edu.

I think I may be able to head over there tomorrow! I'll give a shout to the lady you PM'd me about.

Well, I'm sorry to say this person still has my bike and over a year later I don't think I'll ever get it back.
I think she just won't be bothered to take it from Lynn, MA to the shop in Boston, even with my offer to compensate her for it.
after multiple emails and pleadings, I don't think I'll ever get it back.
Strangest situation. Bike is stolen, but I know who has it.
My friends think she sold it.

No, she's well-meaning in the emails. I genuinely think she's probably a nice person who flaked on following through.
However, I really tried and she stated multiple times she would drop the bike off but never has. As I said, it's been over a year now.
I've been really cool about it. I know how busy we all get but at a certain point, it's going to get done or it isn't.
Unfortunately, it's hard to get anyone since I'm across the country and don't know too many people there. Someone here volunteered but by the time she replyed, I don't think he was available anymore.
If I ever get back to Boston, I'll try and recover it. Right now it's a weird "it's stolen but I know who has it" kind of zone...

So sorry to hear such a story. You could have (could still now?) just asked her to sell the bike and send you the money, if it's nearly impossible for her to send the bike to you?

I've only been asking her to drop it off at a bike shop in Boston where I bought it.
Selling it would be far more effort than just dropping it off, and I offered to pay for her trouble.

I work at a bike shop in Boston. We frequently ship bikes. Do you need it brought to a specific bike shop? I can probably find some time to pick it up for you.
