Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Thanks for the nice comments. Oil, it is a 34t. It came off a compact Quarq crank so if I change the chainring, I have to have it re-calibrated. I am going to try to use the 34. With an 11, it max's out at 30 mph at 120 rpm. That is about my max cadence and 30 mph I have never gone that fast in a CX race in my area. 100 rpm is still 25 mph and even that is still extremely rare in Illinois. Typical max speeds for our races (at least while I'm pedaling) are 21 to 22 mph.

Just curious, why must the Quarq be calibrated if you change chain rings? Does that mean with a double you only get accurate readings on one ring?

Soloist, there can be different stiffnesses of chainrings and Quarq recommends recalibration if you change them. My guess is the compromise between the two rings to get the most accurate readings.

El Barato SSCX

Still needs cables and bar tape (and CX appropriate pedals) but you get the general idea.

Lol, I just googled el barato as I though to myself, "I really like those dropouts. They remind me of my old Trek." It took a few minutes to realize...

I dig me some YetiCross. I have my Jake for now, but next year I may build one of those up for racing and keep the Jake as my crazy commuter...
