Turning 50 Tomorrow (November 25)
Unfortunately, though, my riding season is probably over until the spring of '13, so I won't have much to talk about for the first 4-5 months of my legitimate membership here. Can I still eat pie and get a colonoscopy while I'm off the bike?

You could do some jumping jacks and report your BP everyday.

I would definitely recommend a colonoscopy off the bike. Otherwise, the saddle gets in the way.

Have a great day! Buy a book about cycling or rent a video. Pretty soon you won't remember if the memory you have is from the book, the video or some fantasy!

Well, today is the day. Happy Birthday. Next spring you can start with the ride reports from Long Island. I'm not sure we have anyone else from around there.

Two points:
1. You live on LI, not in Alaska. You'll be able to ride a number of days (HTFU as it were). Easy for me to say, I live in CA.
2. 50 is the new 42-1/2 so big deal Now don't get your hopes up; you won't live any longer, but you'll live better!

Riding season over on Long Island??? HTFU!
As far as eating pie and getting a colonoscopy while off the bike, that's generally how it's done. Eating pie while riding can be messy, and getting a colonoscopy while riding can be even messier.

Colonoscopy ok, no pie 'til you ride! Just kidding, posting pictures of your bike will earn a pie exemption. In any case Happy Birthday and welcom young 'un.

Thank you all. I'm feeling really achy today, all over. I hope it's just the chill that has set in around here and not some kind of switch that gets flipped in your body when you reach the half-century mark. Right now, next Spring's first tour up in Connecticut seems like a pipe dream!
Anyway, I will try to post more at this forum and not just at the Northeast, Commuting, and Touring forums. Now that I'm a bona-fide member, I guess I don't have to worry about staying on topic as much. Now EVERYTHING about my butt on the bike is on topic!

Judging by my last trip to Long Island, I can't understand how you could ride there at any time of the year. And I grew up riding around Irvington, NJ. But if you can ride there in the spring, summer, fall, there is no reason you can't ride there in the winter. As long as there is no snow on the ground. Then you can x-c ski! Get a good pair of tights, and a jacket, gloves, shoe covers and, a balaclava and your good to go. If there is a MUP near where you live, it will be empty. Except for the other nuts like us. OR, find a spin class to maintain your fitness. When spring comes around, you will thank yourself.
Happy Birthday!
