Frame scratching help
Notice this scratching on the frame of my bicycle near the large chain ring. I kinda ruled out chain suck, as if I manually pull the chain up it hits the frame further out than these scratches. I have painted over this area once, but it keeps coming back over time. Any ideas?

Well, it is chain suck on the small chain ring. It hits perfectly if I hold the chain on the small chain ring on a revolution. I was doing the large chain ring at first. Now I have to figure out what to replace or did this happen because I shifted under load. The chain is close to being worn out, but still shows good using: https://pedros.com/products/tools/ca...ecker-plus-ii/ The bicycle has around 10K on it and I am on my third chain. I have a new cassette ready and actually have the chain rings also. But was going to run this chain till the checker says it is worn out(.5%) and just replace the cassette and chain.

I'd go back to the manufacturer for a warranteed frame replacement. Fatal design flaw IMO.

that may have been a brutal answer but seriously if that were my ride I would have been in my LBS so dang fast. I can't see I have ever seen this short of a bent chainring. Worst case the bottom bracket shell/frame had an impact and its not true. This would worry me and anger me to no end.

There looks like a quarter sized circle where the lighted part of the frame meets the shadowed part.
Bondo?

There is no frame crack. It is just a set of scratches through the paint and primer. The white is the primer I assume. I ended up for now trying this:
https://reviews.mtbr.com/workbench-h...your-chainsuck
From the link: "Finally, if you’re worried about chainsuck messing up your beautiful paint job or carbon chainstay, add a “peeler” to knock the chain loose if it ever tries to wrap back up and around. Zip-ties can do this pretty easily. (See the photo below.) Position them as close to the chain ring teeth as practical so that they can catch the chain before doing damage."
I touched up the area again with some matching paint I have. Covered this with a piece of 3M electrical sealing tape and then a zip tie on top of that. The tape keeps the zip tie from moving down the chain stay as it is tapered to the BB. Went on a good ride today and tried all kinds of different shifting patterns on the front chain rings and no chain suck happened. The bicycle shifts perfectly all around and the drive train is quiet. I see no bent chain ring teeth, but I would say my large chain ring is worn as it is aluminum and shows some burring. The small chain ring is steel and is in much better shape.
