Bruce was known as a brilliant curmudgeon, but he was my friend and a much deeper man than most knew. He leaves a large hole.

I’ve got an Eisentraut Limited Touring that as far as I understand may or may not have been built by Bruce Gordon. Does anyone know if there are any tell tale signs that he may have had his hands on it or not? Serial. number maybe?

A very sad day indeed, RIP.

I think the curmudgeon gene is a prerequisite and byproduct of frame building, several come to mind when considering that aspect. Pioneers never blazed an easy trail and it combines opposite ends of a spectrum like few other crafts.

Equal parts blacksmith, jeweler, artisan and craftsman, no easy way down that road to be sure.

Hopefully he is back on a bike now.

Bruce has said that he couldn't tell whether a limited was made by him or not. Albert Eisentraut might be able to provide some information.

I don't know much about him, but I know he left a mark on this industry, and was talented and revered. I had heard about the curmudgeonliness, but people always seemed to say it with love. I have seen some heartfelt tributes from folks who knew him personally and that speaks volumes. Rest in peace, Mr. Gordon.

Most people have never walked an inch, let alone a mile in their shoes so they are talkin out their you know what when they pass judgement on someone like this.

My son is in the middle of bringing life back to one of Bruce's creations:

Brent: I am sorry the bike world lost a true talent, but I am even more sorry you lost a friend. We are getting to be of an age where such sad events happen much too often.

I spoke with Bruce briefly at a few NAHBS events (in San Jose and Sacramento); never more than a minute or two because I was not in the market and did not want to take him away from a potential buyer. I found him to be perfectly approachable and interesting to talk with, although I also could see from whence his reputation for not suffering fools gladly came. Since I did not hang around long enough to confirm that I was a fool, he and I got along just fine.

Tailwinds, Bruce, and to you as well, Brent.

P.S. It was great running into you at Eroica.
