🎆 Happy Independence Day 2019
The Fourth of July—also known as Independence Day or July 4th—has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution.
On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson.
From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.

I did a cross country bike tour from Seattle to Boston and went through the upper peninsula and St. Saint Marie to enter Quebec before dropping back down to the US in upstate NY. I really liked Ontario and the monuments in eastern Ontario especially are an alternative history of the Revolution and the War of 1812.

The damn loyalists who were forced to flee the newly independent US and moved to Canada ended up with health insurance . . .

It's not even 11 and it's already miserable out. Hot and soupy. 'Posed to shower this afternoon but be dry for the big fireworks display, which takes place about a 7 minute walk from my house.
Going to grill a fat pompano for dinner. Maybe I will trundle over to my local for a while and then over to see the pyrotechnics.

I went for a morning ride on my closest thing to an American bike, which is my Chinese built Schwinn, while wearing a red, white, and blue shirt. Just to be in the spirit of things.
The lack of car and truck traffic due to the holiday was an excellent bonus.

The American's biggest victory was the last major battle of the war, so a win. Of course, it actually occurred after the war was over, but they didn't know that.
