Hello from Chicago - Again!
Hi! I was an active member here some years back but fell out of it (many reasons, none to do with the actual forum or any of you lot!) and naturally couldn't remember what my name was, or password, or which email address I used, so I just joined again. Anyway, I currently ride a Trek FX 7.3, and tend to just do a lot of trail and path riding, usually up to about 50 miles (in fact, I recently took up running again, so I've been using my bike days for long rides, and after work is now runtime). I'm definitely in the "enthusiast duffer" category - I just wear street clothes but I do wear proper bike shorts underneath and use clipless pedals with real bike shoes. Odd category to be in - serious enough to go clipless but not enough to ride a road bike and compare Strava times.
I decided to start up again because I've begun to wear out my beloved Trek (which has been my only bike for a couple years now, so it gets a decent amount of use) and am giving serious thought to building a bike up myself - there are a bunch of bikes I like but each one seems to have at least one major thing I'd want to change (most often gearing) that would involve either swapping out componentry or buying a much pricier bike. Or both! (This is just like cars, I've discovered). I also just think it would be a fun project.
Anyway, that's my deal.
