If you want directions, Google Maps. If I recall it can be set for biking so it includes MUP trails and stuff.
If you want tracking that you can control and not have Google watching everywhere you go, I love Urban Biker. It does mapping and acts as a dashboard (speed, distance, whatever else you can think of) displayed on the screen. You can track your route with offline maps. You can even use online Google maps if you have a data connection. But I don't think it does route guidance.

I've used and liked:
For recording cycling activities...
Strava
Wahoo Fitness
Cyclemeter
For navigation...
Google Maps
I also use Google maps to enable tracking me via Timeline. I want that for an objective witness in case I'm struck by a car, deer, etc., and have no memory of the incident. I was struck by a car in May but not unconscious. Google maps timeline corroborated my version of the incident. It's sorta-private (just between me and Google... and the NSA... and China, Russia, hackers, etc.). I can delete logs but cannot modify them so logs can't be falsified. The data file can be downloaded, converted and uploaded to Strava or other activity apps, in case Strava fails... which does happen occasionally. So far Google has never failed.
With reservations I'd accept Maps.me (much inferior to Google maps, but still useful). It's based on OsmAnd maps but much better -- faster and more stable. But I also use maps for scheduling public transportation and maps.me can't handle that. Google maps is far superior.
Tried and didn't care for or couldn't find a use for:
Ride With GPS
Map My Ride
Pretty much every other activity app. Tried 'em all, didn't care for 'em or they weren't better than Strava, Wahoo Fitness and Cyclemeter.

Strava is pretty much "the one" for ride tracking for most people.
Use Google Maps for turn by turn directions.

Ride With GPS is also good - it's a popular application for mapping routes for group rides. You can also use it to record your rides.
The turn by turn navigation feature is also nice, but it requires a premium (paid) subscription.

Have a gander at Komoot as well for route planning. It's like google maps but the routing algorithm tends to be bit more bike friendly. Numerous times I've had google maps route me on some pretty horrible roads with terrible traffic.

I'm a bit late posting for this but Caynax Sports Tracker works very well for me. You can set it up for various activities like hiking, jogging and biking. It's free and the advertisements are not intrusive. The Zeopoxa mentioned above, just looking at that screen shot, looks to be a whole like this app. It uses Google maps so to save data use on my Android (Galaxy S7) I've downloaded Google maps to include about a 150 mile radius from where I live. Mostly I use it around home to track stats for my bike exercise riding and it works great for that. A few weeks ago I used Caynax on a 30 mile Rails/Trails ride which is located about 40 miles from home. It worked great for that too.

Still trying apps that you all have suggested and I have to say there are more good ones out there than I realized. It will be interesting to watch how manufacturers of GPS units adjust to this.

I tried komoot and it seemed like it was pretty good but then I compared a section it to google maps for the section I ride to see if it would match. Only google maps picked up the secluded bike path and I know that's not always what they do. Go figure!

Here is a pic of my standard Urban Biker layout - Keep in mind all these can be customized as needed.
