Edit:
Seems like Pete's section regarding the video editing no longer appears to be there. At least I didn't find it.
FWIW, I use iMovie HD to edit my movies but that's an Apple OS X application. It is very easy to use.

but avoid all that stupid animation it does, adobe offers free 30 day downloads on their site, and you can also use download.com. if you like it you can always buy it. or do what i do, get all my footage together, then download the software for the month and make the vid. then hopefully theyll have a new version to try next year.

Thanks for all the replies. I just started using windows movie maker today. I've run into one small hiccup as far as converting my dvd films to something that the movie maker can read. Anyone know a free program that will convert .vob's to .mpeg? When it's all done I;m going to have 1.5 hour video of my moab excursion about 2 wks ago.
