@@@ Anyone familiar with Miyata Road bikes? @@@
Hello, I am interested in buying this road bike from ebay, https://cgi.ebay.ca/Miyata-Team-50cm-...1%7C240%3A1318but I'm not sure if it is worth it/possible scam.
Also my height is 5'7 and the bike frame size is 50cm, does it fit me well? Also from the picture, the crankset seem not to be original Dura Ace.
It is listed for $800.
Any help will be appreciated.
This picture below is the original Miyata catalog with its components listed

i have a miyata 312, a decent old road bike.
however, $799 for that (unless it's in mint cond. and a higher-end model) seems a little high of a price to me.
fwiw i paid $400 for the 312, with the original components on it (and even that was probably too much to pay for that old bike)
btw the pic doesn't work.
edit: post to the Vintage sub-forum, they'll know for sure

I have a Miyata Pro from the early 90s that I've converted into a fixed gear bike. I also used it as my main road bike for several years in the early 90s.
It's a decent bike. However, I think $799 is too much. Especially for a bike with a 7 speed cassette and downtube shifters. Even in mint condition, I wouldn't pay more than $375 for that.

Oh, and at 5'7", a 50 may be a little on the small side for you unless you have really short legs. I'm the same height and I usually ride a 49-50cm pretty comfortably, but I have really short legs.

Team Miyatas were superb bikes actually but I agree that this one is over-priced. Also it's been built up with a hodge podge of parts. They're all good and better quality parts but a mishmash nonetheless.
Compact crank with external bearings and d/t shifters and sew-ups?
No opinion of the fixie. Not enough info. Is that a SKS coupler on the toptube? Don't see one on the other tubes. People who want/need a breakaway frame will spend good moey for the SKS set-up.

Is this purchase going to be your first and only bike? If so, I'd stay clear of a fixed gear or single speed because it doesn't have the versatility that a geared bike has.

Miyata? High-quality. High weight. Should not be high-priced, though a few hundred dollars might be justified for the very best ones, in great condition.

FWIW, I paid $380 off ebay for a new old stock 1991 Miyata 914 special edition (i.e. 912 with all original shimano 600 parts & wolber tx profil rims). It's a very nice riding bike. I wanted a lugged frame, but can't afford the italian bikes. However...being somewhat addicted, and not very fit, I ended up converting the bike to a totally modern rig, with 2008 ultegra throughout, and open pro ultegra hub rims. $799 is too much for that bike. But it will definitely ride nicer than a $799 aluminum entry level bike...

The crankset on the eBay Team Miyata isn't original. The frame is probably from 92 or 93.
The red Pro Miyata isn't from the early 90's, it's either an 85 or 86. An 85 would have come with a Suntour Superbe Pro group and an 86 would have come with a Suntour Sprint group. I have one of the latter.
All of these are great frames. IMO, the eBay listing is worth that price, though, considering it isn't all original.
I am 5'8" and my Pro Miyata is a 54cm. It fits me, but sometimes I wish I could drop the stem a little more. A 52cm would probably be better for me.

a Team Miyata is one of the finest mass produced bikes to ever come out of Japan. With original parts, in good working order, $800 would be about right. However, I wouldn't pay $800 for that bike. 50 cm is too small anyway, for someone 5'7", at least for classic and vintage bikes.

IF it's local and you can take a spin prior to purchase and avoid the shipping, I'd be tempted if I were you. I do think the price is a tad high, but I must admit I'm completely unfamiliar with the bike market in Calgary.
Oh, and being a long-legged 5'6", that bike looks too small for me, I'd guess that bike is a tad small for you as well unless, as others have mentioned, you have short legs. Even then, you'd probably want a longer stem, possibly one with a bit more rise as well.
It appears to be way too small for the current owner judging from the setup in the pics.
