You brought up a 13 year old thread to ask that question? But while I am here, how about the UpStand. Looks light weight.

Might be better to start a new thread, over resurrecting one thirteen years old.

I remember when we were kids, one day kickstands suddenly ceased to be "cool" and we all took them off our bikes, unless we had Schwinns, with welded-on kickstands. We also removed our fenders and chain guards. My dad just rolled his eyes.

I've got kickstands on two of my bikes: The old Schwinn commuter and the winter bike. It's just a matter of convenience, that I can park the bike anywhere, and it stands up by itself, leaving my hands free to load the basket with stuff.

Thanks, that does looks great, carbon fibre, though I'm not sure I should spend that much for a kickstand.

I've tried the standard Greenfield alloy center mount one, didn't fit. Was going to get the Stabilizer, but it looks heavy (with the big stabilizing bracket).

Illegal in 46 states and 5 provinces but no rules against it on BF.

But, the conversation (and poll) happened a long time ago. Very easy for someone not paying attention to respond to comments made by someone long gone from BF. Which is neither illegal nor immoral.

I have used kickstands but have been clean for at least ten years.

I just can not kick the habit with my Paramount. Hop off, down it goes, ahhhhhh---such a good feeling rushes "all over my body."

No clue if it is prohibited, but it is rather unproductive. Since the question was asked, there are six answers to the original question posed 13 years ago, one answer to the question that revived the thread, and a few others reminding everyone it is 13 years old.

A new thread titled "Lightweight Kickstand Options" would have likely gotten the question more relevant responses.

Where do I put the kickstand on a recumbent trike?

They are pretty useless on recumbent bikes too. One came on my long wheelbase Linear but it was so far to the ground that it was extremely fragile. Replaced it once and then just left it off. And, no there are none on my regular bikes. Just adds extra weight. And no, I'm not a weight weenie who buys the lightest, most expensive components to save a gram.

If I was really worried about weight on my bike I'd starve myself to lose about 20 lbs.

There's one in every crowd

But seriously the problem with a kickstand on a MTB is that it might deploy. If it were a lot lighter, it might not. A fun thought to pursue for a moment, anyhow.

I can understand if you're riding a lot of rough terrain, but I ride my hybrid like a road bike, mainly on city streets & paved roads.

Don't have kickstands on my fast racing drop bar bikes. Do have kickstands on all my slow upright cruisers, hybrids, & townies. What's the big deal? I've also got dork discs & reflectors on all my grocery getters.

Yup on the hybrids, nope on the roads. I have learned that leaving the kick stand down on the hybrid while riding appears to be the equivalent of leaving your turn signal on when driving. It's a old person thing....ugh!

Im trying to think what I was doing 13 years ago lol...

I had only one bike in my life without a kickstand. It was an old schwinn chopper style 3 speed cruiser I had when I was a teenager. I always laid it down with the chain guard up lol...

I ride cruisers so kickstands are standard...

I find the pole results interesting. I would have thought the numbers would reflect differently.
