American Classic Hubs - Bearing Replacement ?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

American Classic Hubs - Bearing Replacement ?

I bought a used set of American Classic CR-420 wheels and the 15mm rear hub bearings seem pretty rough to me. There's the friction from the seals, but I can also feel roughness when I turn them, similar to the feeling of loose ball hubs that are too tight. The front hub seems ok.

I started to take them apart, but it doesn't look like there's any adjustment to be made ... am I wrong ?

I'm used to loose bearing hubs and being able to adjust them perfectly, but am at a loss for what to do here .... Any ideas about replacing the bearings ? Cost, availability, specifc tool needed ?

I've emailed American Classic, but no reply yet.

The American Classic hubs use cartridge bearings. There are four in the rear hub; replacement requires a full hub overhaul. It's a good job for your favorite pro wrench to take care of. Bearings can be a bit pricey, I get mine direct from Boca Bearings (bocabearings.com) and got a good sale price on ceramic balls in steel races...

Thanks. American Classic finally got back to me and said replacement bearings are $50.
I'm looking at Boca Bearings. How did you figure out which bearings are the correct ones ?

I do all my own work, so I don't mind trying something new. Just not sure if I need special tools for this ?
