Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You friggin winter wussies, htfu (opening scene Road to Perdition)

First time I've seen this movie was tonight - loved the opening scene. I'm not going to complain about riding in the winter here in TX.

what, if anything, does this have to do with riding in cold weather?

I guess it's because they were wearing jackets and sweaters.

Amused by the gentleman from Austin saying that others are wussies, when winter proper does not exist for him.

ah, so it might be a tad chilly eh? Judging by the hills that was San Fran? So we're talking what, upper 50's at worst? That's the definition of winter wussie right there.

There's nothing between the great white north and Texas but a couple of fence posts. We get some decent cold snaps although it tends to not stick around very long thankfully. Of course I know its no where near like Nebraska, Minnesota, Chicago, or New York.

The kid would have gained more by doing hard intervals on an indoor trainer than struggling to stay upright in the snow at 5 mph.

I actually hit the trainer this morning instead of riding outside. It was 36 with 10-15 mph wind. The big problem is that it rained all day yesterday so there are tons of damp leaves on the ground. I don't have a fender on either bike, and so there will be some standing water to go through here and there.

I'll delude myself into thinking I was HTFU by just getting up at 5:30 AM to ride the trainer.

Winter? We are still solidly in the middle of Fall. Winter isn't for another month and a half.

Yeah - really dug the whole movie. The opening bike scene really jumped out at me, but loved the whole thing.

winter arrived in CT the day before Halloween this year. 5 days without power (but others are still without). Heck the leaves were still green:
