Portland LiveSTRONG Ride date changed

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Portland LiveSTRONG Ride date changed

They have changed it to July 30th as the date of Sept 24th was a religious Holiday from the explanation given. this bumps it up considerably.

Yeah...well I would think about doing that double, but I don't know if I want to do it bad enough to fund raise for it.. I WANT to do summit to surf, diabetes hits alot closer to home for me than cancer...so this year if its one or the other... I'm doing StS. Plus...that climb to timberline rules.

I think I needed to raise like 75 last year to enter into STS. I think that the Armstrong ride is going to tap out a lot of sources for another year at least. I am going to do both I have had problems on both sides of those fences- I ride for my sister who passed away 21 years ago and my Grand father 25. I have a dog that has diabetes and some close friends that do too. All in all, both really good reasons to get on a bike and ride like I stole the thing. Hope to see you one one of them Jakey.

Doing both would be awesome... That would be a hard ride to get up and do after doing 9500ft of gain and 100 miles the day before. LOL... Best of luck to ya, I lost my mother to diabetes, so I have committed myself to riding in support of that yearly. I think unfortunately that livestrong moving to that date is really going to hurt turnout for summit to surf. More sugar free food for me!

Jakey Both have like 70 mile ride parts too a person could do the summit on Hood then take out that last loop into hood river then have a great pasta dinner for the next day! that would be a consideration. I wonder if the LAF will bring down the amount of donations needed to ride since we have 2 less months to obtain the goals we desided on?

Out of curiosity, how do you tell when your dog has diabetes.....I have two dogs myself, and am curious as to what the warning signs are and such....

One will be totally interested in what the others pee is all about. They will loose weight very rapidly and have a thirst they can not quench. They will eat like mad and not gain weight either. Very simular to a humans symptoms. The bad thing is they can't tell you when they feel bad

They called me yesterday to make sure I was still going to ride in it. I guess that a lot of people are not going to ride becuase of the new date conflicts with plans. In contrast I wonder how many would have not rode if it were to still have been on the original date of that holiday. In fact I look forward to a ride on Christmas and New Years I wish they would organize one so I could ride for religious reasons!!!
