I've had my eye on the Circe Omnis + for quite some time now and I'm pretty sure now that I'm going to get one for my wife and me. What do you think of these specs? We want to ride around town and also do some touring. Do you think the Sram Dual Drive setup will be enough to get us through mountainous terrain?

Edited to add: Circe tells me that extra brakes can be ordered. Is this common on tandems?


The Omnis+ with its dual drive wide gear range, front disc brake and heavy duty wheels, is ideal for more extreme usage. If you are planning a long camping tour or days in the mountains, this is the bike.

Smaller wheels mean you get better gearing to climb mountains, but it also means that you get worse braking when descending. What is the biggest disc the frame can handle.

I'm not sure. I'll ask them about that. They did tell me that I could order an extra brake.

Why would braking be worse? If anything it should be better. There are a number of things against small wheels but I don't see this as one of them.

For rim brakes, diameter matters just like for discs. But since this bike has discs I don't see why it would. I believe the discs come in various diameters: you'd want the biggest ones for touring. I wonder what they mean about extra brakes?

Since it appears to use Shimano MTB disc brakes, can you special order a higher grade brake? SLX or XT with 180mm Ice-Tech rotors would give you a lot of stopping power and heat dissipation.

I've had the Circe+ for a couple of months now. Lovely bike! Especially like the Sram Dual Drive. No problems so far with the brakes. Looking forward to doing a longish tour in Portugal in June.
