Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I see way more Specialized on the road

So I live in Colorado and I see more Specialized bikes by far. I would say maybe 60 or 70% of the bikes I see are Specialized. I'm just curious if that's normal or did Specialized/LBS's around here do an exceptional job marketing some how?

What do you you see in your home town?

60% of the bikes in my stable are Specialized. But in my riding group, I'm usually the only one riding a Specialized. We also have Trek, Giant, Scott, Serotta, and Lynskey.

In my area though the Specialized LBS is not well regarded.

Variety.

If I had to put a percentage on it, I'd say 60% Electra.

I think it's more to do with the LBS choices. We're probably 75 to 80 % Cannondale and Raleigh in my little town. Used to see a lot of Specialized and Trek but that shop closed.
REI moving in so we'll probably see more variety this fall for the folks who aren't loyal to the LBS.

A lot of them around here too. They outnumber Trek who've been around here the longest probably three to one.

Specialized and Trek are mega brands in the bike world. They crank out a lot of bikes and have a large network of high volume dealers (by bike standards anyway).

In my area about 60% are Cannondale, 20% Trek, 10% Specialized, remaining 10% vary.

In my area you might see an old Specialized hybrid or mountain bike, but that is about it. Trek is real big.

I see a lot of Specialized bike here in western CO too. Guess the local Specialized dealer sells a lot of bikes. Even I have a Specialized road bike that I only have because it was on sale cheap. otherwise I ride lesser known brands.

I also see a lot of Felt bikes. I see a lot of older Treks around here. We have a Trek dealer but I do not see as many Treks as Specialized.

My bf's Independent Fabrications road bike is the only one I've seen around here lately.

I see a lot of Trek and Specialized and one Pinarello. There are two Trek stores in the KC Metro area so it isn't surprising that Trek has a large presence. I don't hardly see any cyclists when I'm out anyway and if I do we just exchange cold glances and act like the other isn't there.

IMHO best looking bikes come from Specialized out of the 4-5 mainstream brands.

Really? Of the main brands I think that Cannondale looks the best, followed by Giant with Trek and Specialized tied for the ugliest.

I see a lot of Specialized and Trek in my area. It's what the biggest dealers sell. There is a good mix of most other brands around here. I see a lot of Surly bikes among the non-racer crowd.

Lots of Fujis in the DC area too...probably due to the relatively high concentration of Performance shops in the area.

Fuji looks good. Specialized just isn't special anymore.

When Specialized came out, everyone flocked to them because they were "unknown" and the underdog fighting Trek, now they are just about the same.

When I was saw my first crit the other day, I'd say about 80-90% of the bikes were either Specialized, S-Works or Cervelo. I don't remember seeing any cannondales or treks. I did see 1 Fuji, but that was only because the guy got dropped within 2 laps of the cat 4 race, and rode by himself for the rest of the race. It was painful to watch

They also sponsor quite a few teams in Colorado. I ride for one of them.

Just an FYI, S-Works are Specialized.

I am sure that in many cases, it is all about the LBS. Recently as I have been looking around at the riders I was thinking that I have seen far more Cannondales than anything else.

I assume you're referring to Specialized's introduction in your community. They've been in business longer than Trek and both of them were small upstarts competing against Schwinn.
