FS: 1960 Ken Ryall British-made frameset plus headset
I'm thinning the herd, so I'm offering a bike that I enjoyed a great deal over the last few years, but am ready to move it on to a new rider: A 1960 Ken Ryall frame/fork/headset. Ryall's shop was in Hounslow, outside of London, and from what I could find online employed a variety of well-known Brit builders. This example has Nervex Pro lugs, nicely done wrap-around seat stays, Campagnolo dropouts front and rear w/ eyelets. There's no tubing sticker, but it takes a 27.2mm post, so is likely double-butted Reynolds 531. Measurements are as follows:
Seat tube: 58cm center to top
Top tube: 56cm center to center
Chain stay: 45cm
Wheel base: 103 cm
Rear spacing is 124mm; I ran it with a six-speed block, as well as with 27" wheels. Serial # is 600023, which, I believe, indicates the 23rd frame built in 1960. There's also a neat oiler port under the BB and a lamp fitting on the right fork blade. Headset looks a bit tatty, but it feels smooth (and is likely original). Weight as shown (with headset and seat post binder bolt) is 6.7 lbs on my hanging scale.
While the blue finish still has a beautiful lustre, there are paint chips throughout (though no dents), particularly on the non-drive-side stays. I've tried to capture those in the photos and am glad to show more pics, but consider it highly patina-ed!
Price is $200 plus shipping in the CONUS from zip 02446 via ShipBikes.
