Shimano Deore or XT Hubs...
Debating between two 26" wheelsets... Identical rims/spoke count... One set uses a Deore hub (FH-M525A) and the other is an XT (FH-M756).
Basically a lot of gravel and pavement riding, usually avoiding wet conditions -- it's not a commuter build in that sense... Running XT derailleurs in the front and rear already so a matching groupset would be nice. Just questioning if there would be any tangible benefits. Does the XT line really just have better seals?
Thanks!

DS seal & cone are identical.
NDS cone has a extremely similar part#.
Spacers are just slightly different thicknesses.
IME, it's the DS cone that takes the brunt of "abuse".

Some 8 or 10 years ago I bought a couple LX hubs and built a wheel. About a month later, the hub cracked and a spoke came loose. I rebuilt the wheel with the other hub, which was supposed to be on a wheel for the spare bike; same thing happened. Well, shoot. (Or something like that.) I bought XT hubs, built one up, and it's still rolling. (Decided I didn't need the spare for the spare, so that one is still NOS in its box.)
I'd get the XT.
I'd get the XT.

I've always been partial to XT, always assumed it was a difference in the races and cones that made them a little better. I did have a set of LX570 hubs and can't say anything bad about them , they did fine but XT have always had a good life span and rode smoothly. Never had deore hubs, just their predecessor, STX-RCs which never lasted all that well and turned me off from buying their deore replacement.

XT has more PoE... some say that makes the Deore with fewer PoE more durable. Who knows, freehubs can be replaced easily.
Other than that it depends on how much the bling is worth to you.

Thanks everyone. Figures when I went to actually buy them last night the XT wheelset just up and vanished from the seller's site... Not out of stock, just gone...
Ended up going with a Deore wheelset from another vendor. Almost identical, same exact hubs and rims, stainless DT spokes instead of black really... Honestly, I believe all three sets are actually made by Wheel Master.
Hopefully I end up liking them. It was one of those situations where you have a green light from the significant other and need to act immediately before the approval expires...

I built a pair of wheels with the 3N72 dynamo front and LX T670 rear about 5 years ago. Still going strong. The 3N72 was supposedly an LX level equivalent. I had to order the LX rear from the UK as they are not sold in the US, and frankly I don't remember why I was so keen to get a matched pair since nothing else matches on the bike.
