SRAM Cassette, Shimano chain compatibility?
Simply, does a SRAM PG 980 cassette work with a Shimano HG 11 chain?
Details; I bought a used Kinetic indoor trainer that included the trainer-tire mounted on a wheel with cassette and disc that I can just mount to my bike. I didn't realize it was a SRAM cassette. My bike is all Shimano. Is that chain compatible with that cassette?

Brand doesn't matter but you should use a 9-speed chain with a a 9-speed cassette.

The chain may work ok, but that is a 9 speed cassette and I would assume from having an 11 speed chain that your bike has 11 speed shifters, so the shifter won't work with the 9 speed cassette.

Caloso is correct. Assuming the your shifters are 9 speed, you need to use a 9 speed chain with a 9 speed cassette. The width of the chain narrows from 9 to 10 to 11 speed as does the spacing between cogs of the cassette.

Ah Ha!! Width and spacing variances from 9 - 10 - 11 speeds is the tech knowledge I’m happy to learn! Thanks my friend!
