If it's a Dahon it's probably a good bike, but it certainly is ugly !

I don't think it's ugly, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a little tail-heavy with an 11 speed IGH.

Is it just me, or does it look like the housings in front are way too long? I know you have to allow a little more slack for the folding handlepost, but the amount shown seems excessive.

I think it's kinda cool looking.

The video is interesting: Dahon is directly admitting they decided to make a better Brompton. That's a brave move.

There is no point in translating Tern's problems to Dahon. Dahon was producing bikes that didn't break for decades before Tern decided to become a company and be terrible at it. Dahon and Tern are not the same company, they do not make the same bicycles.

I'm responding to you as a person who knows the difference between a Dahon and a Tern. You're not the average bloke who doesn't know better, and your assertion that Dahons are risky because Terns are has no basis in data. Dahons don't break.

My "contrary attitude" is - to repeat myself - directed at one particular poster on a folding bike forum who knows Term is not related to Dahon. I fully understand the implications of Tern's stupidity to the wider market. You know better, and bought a Brompton anyway 'cause it's what you wanted. I've had two and loved them. Great bikes with oodles of character.

Huh? I thought father and son. wife and mother? Design also very similar. Maybe Tern picked the wrong (cheaper) factory.

Being related to the owner of another bike company does not qualify as the companies having a relationship. Copying their design doesn't, either. Dahon and Tern are separate companies.

Just so no newbies are misled: Mr. Ritchie and Dr. Hon started in the folding bike business around the same time. Today Dahon is ~25x the size of Brompton.

Interestingly enough, Brompton's principals have stated in numerous interviews over the last couple of years that they're planning on doubling factory production to 100,000 bikes/year by ~2021 and exporting 50,000 of those bikes a year to China, where Dahon's main factory is located and where Dahon has something like 200 company owned stores.

Also interesting, it wasn't until after Brompton's announcement that Dahon quit diddling around with the Curl concept, abandoned what I thought was a more interesting and unarguably more original design and popped out a folding bike that didn't curl as the Curl.

The question is, what will Brompton do to compete with dozens of interpretations of Andrew Ritchie's design in the China market?

I don't agree about putting the battery on the frame. The genius of the front bag mount is you can separate the weight of the battery from the bike for folding and carrying. My first Brompton was an NYCe Wheels electric conversion, and that baby was heavy even without the bag/battery attached.

At the first glance, it looks ugly. But when you take a look at the thread of the Red Curl in this sub-category. I think it is beautiful. According to the review, seems it has some unique features and also some points need to be improved.
I will consider buying one if it is available in US.

They have lighter ones in fact the Grin Tech Grin Tech, Brompton Electric Bike Kit has cute ones. The battery could be in a seat post bag. If Brompton or Dahon with the Curl sourced through whatever company Luna uses this mini battery from Luna is too cute https://lunacycle.com/batteries/pack...-6ah-3-pounds/.

I think the battery, motor everything needs to just be combined in the wheel out of my way! I like the idea of the smartphone connection. A problem for me though because I dont use service providers anymore.

Kinetics uses this company Pendix Electric Assist Kits ? Kinetics

I would love this but of course it takes like 6 months or so....blah blah...

The Dahon Curl would be perfect electrified. I will take mine in pink!

I see Bike Friday has electrified the pakiT https://www.bikefriday.com/folding-b...pakit/-----the battery is on the seat post.
The battery sits at the bottom of a separate pouch in the bag. There's still lots of room for cargo in there.

Oh, it's a battle! But at least you guys are civil.

Certain individuals used to be quite disrespectful, but they've either been repremanded, so they've toned it down, or they just don't really post.

I'm just enjoying the bike tech word war,...quite informative.

Nerds?

Hey, I resemble that remark.

As far as any small wheeled bike, I just wanna know the weight capacity (I'm 250lbs) and gear inches(wanna see at least 90 in the highest gear).
