On another fun note, I think my heat just passed away.
Currently 64 in the house, and the heat won’t turn on. I recycled the breaker. It came on for about 6 mins and 43 seconds give or take a second or 2 and it shut off again. My knowledge of Hvac systems is about the same as my knowledge of bikes. Non existent.
We have home warranty so made the call. Expect to hear within 24 hours from the contractor. Of course this is totally unacceptable from my wife’s POV, somebody should be here now.
It’s a Gas system (90 percent sure, don’t judge me). Any of you gents want to drop some knowledge?

My mother certainly thought so. One time someone, on learning that Mom had 6 kids, said, "You must love children!", to which Mom replied, "Well, I love their father."

If it burns, sure. You just want to get enough in there to see if it will fire. This will confirm there is spark and it's a fuel problem. I used brake cleaner at the job. We've even driven cars into the shop by spraying into the throttle body when the fuel pump goes bad.

we have warranty so hopefully that is not the case. Lily and I can’t go on our weekly bike ride tomorrow, contractor is coming in the morning.
Told him what was happening, even with the fan on there is no airflow so he didn’t like the sound of that. I can’t find the pilot light but I can smell gas if I stick my nose against the side of the unit. It’s located in the master bedroom closet crawl space. He wasn’t impressed that I didn’t even know what unit it was or anything.

If I'm riding early in the morning, I take care of as much as I can before going to bed the night before.
In general, I like to get out before 9am or so, if it's to be anything more than a piddly 20-30 miles. Once it gets to 11am or so, it's not likely that I'll get out for a ride at all, unless it's an evening group ride.

I keep my heat set to that all winter. Is it in your basement? I thought everyone that far south used electric heat pumps but you should be able to tell if it’s gas by there being a cast iron or yellow pipe going to it.
My heater cycles off when the filter needs changing (badly)

Sensible dad. get the most use out of the free slave labour. After all they've cost a lot more in upkeep than the cost of the labour saving equipment.

Indeed. Even during the Oil Crises of the 1970s, gasoline was cheaper than feeding a teenage boy!
