Cycling dropping off

Is it me or has cycling dropped off around Katy and West Houston area. It seems like every time I go riding I don’t see any other riders out. I usually ride three or four times a week.

I see a ton of riders along Brays Bayou and White Oak Bayou. I know Saint Arnold team rides tapered off between training seasons (post MS 150, pre Bike Around the Bay), but those have started up again.

It is too hot for the pikers.

I don't think so. I know a lot of group riders go out to Fulshear and areas north or south of there, and don't ride around Cinco/Katy area as much. Which makes sense because the roads kinda suck out there and there are so many stoplights.
There are plenty of riders still in Bush Park.
But yes, also, a lot of riding drops off in the middle of the summer because of the heat and also the time after the MS150.

I still bike commute almost every day - though I'm just in Terry Hershey

I don't see a drop on the number of riders on weekend rides but I don't have the actual numbers. However, I have two patterns that may support your observation. First, my local bike shop said that in 2018 they sold more mountain bikes than road bikes. The shop owner said that there has been an increase in interest in MTB, with many MTB purchasers who were formerly roadies. Second, the number of registered riders for the MS150 has dropped off in the last two years (sorry, I don't have the actual numbers but I know it was down from the numbers published by MS Society). I also visited the BPMS150 webpage this week and I noticed that the number of registered riders are down from last year.

Until the recent Brazos River flooding, for the Sugar Land folks, there is a trail along the Brazos River starting at "Tower Run" at the Sugar Land water tower next to Hwy 59/69. I got an App called "MTB Project" from REI.

https://www.mtbproject.com

There are also trails in Lake Livingston and a new trail in Huntsville State Park.
