Forgive the Huffy...It's my campus bike. It's also my first attempt at fixing up a bike. I figured I start with something I didn't care if I screwed up.

Nice job, you are certainly ready to fix up a 'real' bike. I know a Huffy makes an OK campus bike (see lots of department store stuff on campus both old and new) but still...

Nice job. Who cares that it's a Huffy, whatever gets you around right? I actually want something like that for the really nasty weather days. I have a murray mtn bike I ride in the winter.

A huffy is a fine bike for on campus, you will not worry so much about leaving it locked up while you are at class. Nice job!

Yes I did. I posted here first and nobody said not to, the assumption being that it wasn't worth much. Now it's pretty and the new adoptive owner is more likely to ride a pretty womans bike. It got more of a farm paint job, in that it's about rust protection and utility rather than looks. I used Duplicolor truck & van rattle can that I picked up at the auto parts store. I tried to match the original color that I found on the fork tube as best as I could but chose a metalic flake to cover imperfections better. Plus it will be easy to touch up in the future. It also got new-to-it bars salvaged from an old Huffy Regal. The Regal also gave it's bottom bracket cones for the cause. I spent a ridiculous amount of time with steel wool, and a dremel tool wire brush on those rims. Next time it's oxalitic acid for me.

The Sears/Puch 531 Ted Williams I finally got on the road. It rides nicely, I have to say. I also find it pretty stylish, in a wannabe Legnano sort of way, and I have very little money in it, which is always nice. Unfortunately the crank arm plugs didn't survive removal. Oh well.
Hopefully you can distinguish the before and after pics. Sorry about the low-res nonsense.

84? Le Tour I picked up last Sunday for $35. I mostly was held up by rain on the rebuild. Swapped on some Mavic rims with Suntour cartridge bearing hubs, A honey B.17 from CL, and yellow cloth with amber shellac. I also used a Suntour edge RD, for buttery shifting. I may throw the original ARX back on it, or maybe Cyclone M-II. Man it rides nice, Schwinns always seem to pleasantly surprise me that way
. I also put "NOS" decals on it, from a Le Tour Luxe. Clipped the "luxe" off to keep from impersonating a nicer bike.,,,,BD

Hey - this was fun. Since the forum has been improved, search doesn't work for ****. Tabbing back for 39 pages to find a thread - priceless. Good job IB!
Anyway, a modest "before and after". This one was fished off of eBay as a frame-set, built into a bike, and left the farm for the Big City today. I didn't make much on this one but I did get to clear out some parts bins (all parts used were on-hand), and the kid that got it was thrilled. Despite being cosmetically challenged it is a smooth riding little bike. It'll be right at home in the urban jungle.

Nice job BBM, my oldest son just rebuilt an identical bike, an alley cast-off, and sold it two weeks ago. The student at the U of Mn was also thrilled!

Bigbossman succinctly describes the biggest and most dangerous problem with the new format: search is basically non-existent.
