It was lingering on craigs for a while, and I actually made an appointment to go see it and had to cancel. The next opportunity was two weeks later and it hadnt sold.
First it looked like any second tier grand touring bike, but I was taken by the vertical rear drop outs.
When I saw it was fully Ishiwata 022 tubing including stays and fork, I was sold.
T-mar is the only one Ive found with info on this brand, and an internet search comes up awfully lean.
I like the lack of denting in the chain stays. Somehow that triple fits in their without a dent, the pedals clear, its a really pretty rear triangle. I thought the stays might reach Trek 720 length but theyre a very respectable 45cm.
I believe its a 23 frame from B.B. to top. Its super comfortable. Only thing missing is a brazed on cable stop.
Im curious who built up the frame (or if zebra themselves did) and if this is the top or second to top of the line up. Its quite respectable either way.

That's a nice looking bike, great colors.
I had a Zebra Sport for a while with stamped rear dropouts. It was well-finished.
When overhauling the headset I found the fork tube was marked Ishiwata.
Smooth rider.

Did it turn out to have a 2nd set of bottle bosses under the down tube, as I suggested?

I couldn't see the Z on the headbadge at first, lol, looked like VA. 😁 I sure noticed the dual eyelet braze-ons though, front & rear. Nice bike. 👍

Damn, that's nice.
@KonAaron Snake, some like a sports car, some like a nice elegant truck. I betcha this is nicer than a Surly Long Haul Trucker. And I know that's not your bag.

Zebrakenko was a bike boom brand. Later Zebra, it was owned by Bike Rack of Hauppauge NY when I started repping for them in the mid-'80s. Never saw many out in the world.

The horse comment was a bad attempt at referencing the saying:
"When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses not zebras".

Beautiful bike and interesting. It has dual water bottle bosses on the down tube, one top and one bottom, but no bosses on the seat tube, left open for the frame pump to fit?

Dang, time machine! That's a _Jim_ Blackburn, I reckon? Perfectly contemporary to the bike, and those SS-1s that mounted directly to the bosses without straps felt SOOO solid, like an extension of the frame.
Came from the original Wheel & Sprocket on W Forest Home Ave in Hales Corners. Per their web site, they moved from that location in 1981. W&S is still run by a man named Kegel, I reckon the original owner's son. Might be worth calling them, see if they have any graybeards who would know anything about this bike.
Hey, come to think of it, this would be a good "exercise" for the "post your old shop stickers" thread - we should look up those shops, or their modern-day "descendents", and tell them about our C&V finds with their artifacts found on them. Coincidentally, a mid-'90s Rock Hopper, minus wheels, followed my wife home last night, sporting a W&S sticker.
