Casually Deliberate
I have an issue for the more tech savvy Addictionites. For some time now, LoP's mom has been complaining that she keeps getting ads for bike stuff on her computer even though she doesn't look these things up and hasn't ridden in years. She insisted it was because we are on bike websites. This didn't make sense and we didn't see how it could happen so we've been ignoring it. This morning, I opened the Google app on my Android phone and before I typed anything in I saw LoP's mom's name and the names of some of her relatives in recent searches. On. My. Phone. So, she wasn't crazy. But what the heck is going on and how do we stop it? Is it because we're all on the same WiFi or the same Verizon account? Do I need to do all my searching in private windows from now on? And feel free to laugh. LoP thought it was hilarious.

Edited to add: I thought that I recalled hearing something about forced sign-in so I looked it up - yeah, with a recent update, any time you sign in to a Google service, like YouTube or Gmail, it automatically signs you in to Chrome, so this is probably what's happening.

Boat is broken; need to “Break Out Another Thousand.” At least the weather isn’t wonderful.

Why not? She's probably more qualified to offer medical advice than most people who do on BF, @datlas excluded, of course.

Casually Deliberate
Same here. I have no Facebook, Instagram or anything like that, yet my wife will get pictures of bikes I've looked at on her Instagram account. On a related note. We've gone shopping somewhere like Costco, and later on that day, she'll get a message on her phone to give feedback on her visit to Costco.
The Instagram ad part is troubling though...

If you are signed in to Chrome on the desktop, it'll sync activity, bookmarks, passwords, etc between the desktop and mobile versions.
Edited to add: I thought that I recalled hearing something about forced sign-in so I looked it up - yeah, with a recent update, any time you sign in to a Google service, like YouTube or Gmail, it automatically signs you in to Chrome, so this is probably what's happening.

And that would make sense if it was my mobile device and my laptop. But LoP is looking at bikes on his desktop PC and she's getting ads for bikes on her desktop PC. Last night or this morning, she was looking up relatives on her desktop PC and her searches showed up on my phone. That's the weird thing: it appears to be making connections between different users in the same house and the same WiFi.

After taking these classes and working with senior colleagues and clients for the last year and having had elderly parents, I now know far more about the aging process than I wanted to in advance. Plus LoP's mom has started coming to me with questions on behalf of her and her friends. Surprisingly, perhaps frighteningly, I seem to know the answer to many of them.

Oh, yes. No way I would've put Shimano or SRAM on the bike. Not that those aren't great component groups, but I've always been a Campy guy first....
Especially on Italian steel
First wheelset build with CX-Rays for me. I'm contemplating a second wheelset - might build up a set of tubulars.
I guess this is my midlife bike. Ripe with nostalgia and provenance but fully modern..... I dig it.
