Tubeless wheel recommendation

Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Tubeless wheel recommendation

I have an '06 Specialized Tricross. A couple years ago I bought a road bike that came tubeless and I never looked back - I absolutely love the feel. Recently I jumped on the Tricross now that I live in an area that has TONS of gravel roads. I was immediately reminded how harsh the tubed tires feel as you can't really lower the pressure too much unless you want to walk home. I was going to ditch the Tricross and find a more modern gravel bike as I also love the disc brakes but with the Great Pandemic Bike Shortage of 2020, there's nothing to be found. My shop called me the other day to come test ride a Diverge they just got in...it was sold before I could get there. Crazy. So I'm just looking to find a tubeless wheelset for the Tricross and call it good. 9-speed, rim brake etc.... Need some options to look at.

DT swiss R460 rims. I bought a wheelset at the LBS couple years ago with 5800 hubs laced to those rims, 32 spoke. Kinda heavy.

130mm rear hub spacing? If so, then there are a lot of options since thats just a road hub. List a price range because there options will depend largely on price range. $450 can get you a quality US handbuilt wheelset- good tubeless rim, good hub, double butted spokes.

$200-350 will get machine built wheelsets from online retailers(generally velomine, merlin, pbk, etc).

the velomine wheels already linked are certainly an option.

or go to prowheelbuilder.com and look around. the wheels will be handbuilt and what you want for spec'd parts. obviously more $, but there will be multiple options in the sub $500 category.
rims- Pacenti(Forza and maybe others), Kinlin XR22/XR26/XR31, Velocity A23, DT Swiss rr411 or rr440 rims, and maybe more.
hubs- Shimano 105, Bitex RA12, DT Swiss 350
spokes- sapim laser double butted
nipples- sapim brass

A wheelset with Kinlin XR26 with 24h front Bitex RA12 and 28h rear Bitex RA12 hubs with sapim laser spokes and brass nipples will have a claimed weight of 1485 and actual weight of probably 1550g or less. Itll cost probably $450 total to be handbuilt and delivered to you. Obviously thats just one guesstimate and there are many options to mix and match. All the rims and hubs mentioned are 130mm, rim brake, and tubeless. You can call them too and say you want some help sorting out what to buy, if the options are too much.

If you build the same rim with bitex hubs and double butted spokes, it's still under $500 and pretty light. Mine are around 1500, maybe less.

WTB makes some great rims. If you don't need your current wheel set for a trainer, have your LBS lace up you current hubs with new tubeless rims.

You can have wheels built up with Velocity Quill rims, if you have rim brakes.
